Opi is on day 7 of his OTJ trial. He prob needs to go back on insulin for just a bit. His numbers haven’t been extremely him but still a little high and his 188 I think he got into something before we tested him. He is still hanging out with us all day instead of hiding in the bathroom so that’s good. He hasn’t upped his water take which I think is a good sign but wondering if we should give him a couple more on no insulin or if I should get him back on it again for a bit and if putting him back on it should I continue w his 0.1 dose.

I don't think he's quite ready for the OTJ trial yet but I've got a couple of suggestions for you to try first (if you want to).

I've seen it mentioned in the Feline Diabetes group on Facebook that's associated with the FDMB that some cats numbers go up on the Dr. Elsey's, even though it's supposed to be low carb. It might be worth trying to get it totally out of his diet for a few days and see if the numbers come down any.

Next, I've also heard from others in the group that the Premier meter runs higher than other human meters. If you can afford another meter, you might want to try the Prime ($9) instead. The strips are the same price ($9 for 50, $17.88 for 100)

The dr elseys food is the only food he will eat we have been trying since Jan to get him on wet food and the wet he will eat is the gravy kind. I’ve tried numerous things to get him to eat the wet and he will just sit there and glare at me and then he does a dry heaving thing until I give him his kibble. I am right on cash right now but when I can get a little extra we can try the other meter. I didn’t want to rush him of insulin but he hit a couple lows and he’s in 1 drop so I couldn’t reduce any farther so I talked w deb and decided to try the OTJ trial for a week and reevaluate.

So I went ahead and gave him 0.1 at supper tonight. Wondering if I should keep him at that dose or do I need to change it.
That's hard (impossible really) to say, with only a single BG reading before the 0.1U dose this evening.
You'll have to see how his BG levels are impacted by being back on a tiny dose of insulin, in several cycles (12 hours = a cycle).
No worries, he'll get there, to better BG ranges again.

Sounds good. Im so happy w the progress he’s made so far if he needs the extra time he can have it. Lol. I plan on getting a +3 tonight here in awhile. I just didn’t want to give him to much of a dose since he was on such a low dose before. I’ll keep an eye on him for the next couple of days.

So far, the 0.1U dose isn't dropping Opi too low, which is good.

Do try to get those +3 or +4 BG tests each cycle, if at all possible.

They help you to see what is going on, after the food has been digested and are good to see in conjunction with the pre-shot tests.

Should I do a curve sometime in the next few day too. I can normally get tests in durning the day and have been trying to do at least 1 before
