Hello everyone. I haven't been around in a while because my little Radar has been doing so well off the juice for a few months now. I now have a cluster of questions related to what can cause a diet controlled diabetic to relapse. I may need to be out of town for 10 days in a couple of weeks and am feeling really worried about leaving Radar in a boarding situation. He has always been sensitive about boarding and tends to not eat well while there. Could the stress of boarding cause him to relapse? Is there anything I can do prior to or during the boarding that would help him have the best chance of staying a diet controlled honeymooner? Could a b vitamin shot to stimulate appetite be a simple solution? I know ECID and there are no guarantees, but any wise experience or thoughts you care to share would be welcome. Thank you in advance. :bighug:

Rather than board him while you are away, would it be possible for a friend or relative to come over a couple of times a day to feed him and check on him? This would be a lot less stressful than boarding, especially if it's someone Radar already knows! :)

Many cats are stressed in bording and may refuse food.
Also, even if you give explicit instructions and provide the food, if he won't eat, they may try other foods to avoid hepatic lipidosis.
Maybe check with your local high school guidance counselor for a student interested in veterinary studies to train and hire for pet sitting. You get someone you've trained and the student gets experience.

I'm certain Radar would be happier at home with someone to look after him a couple times a day. We have done this in the past before diabetes. He was very lonely when we got home but he was always fine. I will again try to find someone who might be willing or a student who wants to gain some experience. Thanks for the good ideas.
