Tips to stay OTJ

1. Never feed dry - not even treats. If you change wet food types, be 100% sure the new food is also low carb and same low carb % as your current food. Some cats are very carb sensitive and an increase from 3-6% to 8-10% can spike the BG’s. Don’t feed if you aren’t sure!
2. Weigh every 2 weeks to 1 month to watch for weight changes. Too much of a weight gain can cause loss of remission.
3. Measure blood once a week, indefinitely. You want to catch a relapse quickly. Some people only do checks every 2 weeks to a month.
4. No steroids or oral meds with sugar - remind your vet whenever giving you any medication. Always double check.
5. Monitor food intake, peeing and drinking. If increasing, a sign of losing remission.
6. Regular vet checks for infection such as dental , ear or UTI. And get them treated quick!

If he does fall out of remission you need to be more aggressive and resolve issues/ back on insulin as soon as possible as the window for a second remission is tight if any.

What an awesome day! It is really great to see Oliver listed as an OTJ kitty. Congrats to all there, you've done so well with Ollie. Enjoy this very special day - a party is in order for sure. Oliver, you be good now. Elsa says you gotta come maybe once a week and make sure all is clean and spiffy in her kitchen. She will miss your sponges. Bug Will miss your sponge slides, and Lola most definitely will miss the PurrSche! ;-) WOO! Ollie is at the Falls!

Congratulations Mary and Oliver Twist!!!

I always get a little teary eyed and emotional when one of those that has been with us a little longer, makes it to the Falls. The journey was a little harder and longer, which makes it all that much sweeter. Mary, you mentioned how affectionate Oliver has been, and I think he appreciates your work too. We are going to miss you, please come back and visit occasionally.

In the meantime, enjoy life at the falls!!!

I wish i could convey my appreciation for everything we have gotten from all of you! It's been 11 months since Ollie was dx with dire beasties and we came here not knowing how to test, post, give shots...we didn't even have a quarter to buy a clue. All the hand holding, gentle prodding, and kind direction we received brought us to our celebration today. This day is a celebration of all of us, our most trusted and smarter than the average vet ones (you know who they are :-D ), whose knowledge and experience guides us from inexperience to at least being able to get through the day!!! :-D those who have gone to the Falls and come back to help, those who are yet to get there and our most cherished GA angels who watch over us all and guide us along our path. PARTY all and yahooooooo.

Oh Mary! After today no more condo for Ollie! Bittersweet isn't it.....I remember when Maui lost her condo here, it was tough and took time to adjust. I found that if I "borrowed" others condos it helped a lot and then I hung out on health for a long time before coming back to LL and borrowing condos....

Maybe that is something you can now do too - Of course Mr. Ollie will be very busy as Maui's newest employee that he won't even notice he doesn't have an LL condo any longer..... :lol: :lol: :lol:
