Is there a designated number that says not working/ do over?

Or

Is it when the cat doesn't come down on his/her own?

Or, is there some other standard?

********

So, my cat may be a testing junkie. When it's time to test, he's in his spot. I tried to pretend test him, then pretend test with the lancing device depressed so it clicked and he wasn't having it. He gets tested. Period. No fake testing. Do your OTJ kitties still want to be tested?

*********

How did you train yourself to back off of testing?

*********

Once OTJ, did you ever return to a calm pre-fd normal?

**********

What type of a testing schedule did you keep before you quit testing, or do you still spot test, with on-going plans to test your cat?

Thanks

There's no one answer to your question re. OTJ numbers. If you see an upward trend or most numbers are outside of normal range I would get worried. A string of numbers outside of the normal range could mean your cat was chowing down on contraband. In addition, numbers trending upward may mean your cat has an infection or an inflammation (e.g., gingivitis). Needing a dental is one thing that has thrown any number of kitties out of remission.

If your cat has learned that test = treats, that may be why you're getting the response your getting. I would start reducing the frequency of treats.

I'll let others who have dealt with an OTJ cat answer your other questions.

To answer some of your other questions, it does take time to get used to not testing. The first time for me was easier than the next two because I was determined that, if Boomer's numbers started going back up, I wanted to catch it right away and do whatever it took to get him back OTJ. I think the first time Boomer went OTJ I tested once a week. The second time he went OTJ I tested twice a week. The third time....because I had the feeling it wasn't a strong OTJ....I tested once a day.
It's a habit that is sometimes hard to break.
If you test at feeding time and then 2 hours later and the BG is lower, it's a sign that the pancreas is working.
