:D:D:joyful:Charlie has gone 14 days without needing a single shot!!!!!!!! :otj::cat::):woot:

So what next? for those of you with your sugarbabies in remission, what do you do? do you test them at all? Do you test them once in a while? If once in a while, how often? Do you just watch for new symptoms and pull out the tester if he starts acting weird? I never dreamed I'd have to ask these questions so soon!!!!!!

Congrats!!! My baby has been otj since early February. At first, I continued to test every few days which turned into once a week... now I test every couple of weeks. I'm sure everyone has their own method. You'll probably notice if water consumption increases which would be a good sign to test.

That is great news! :D I'm so happy for you and Charlie! :D :D :D

I test Rosa once a week now she's OTJ. I believe you can drop this to once a month after the first few weeks, but I'm planning on sticking with once a week as I'd rather know sooner than later if she does start getting off track again (it's not always easy for me to track each cat's water intake and urine output with 6 cats in the house).

Congrats and great work!

I gradually lengthen the time between tests. With Smokey, we tested at least every week. She had other things going on with her that could throw her out of remission. I test the boys every 2-3 weeks right now. I probably wouldn't test them as much as I have, but after Cecil went into remission we brought home Chris to foster and Cecil couldn't understand why we were giving Chris his pokes, he'd lay across the top of Chris or headbutt and rub the meter. So we tested them both a lot of times. Now with foster Sly, both Cecil and Chris are confused why Sly is getting their stuff. I also test when they get into something they shouldn't or are acting off.

Georgie Porgy pudding 'n' pie/kissed the girls and made them cry/when the boys came out to play/Georgie Porgy ran away... this time the Stuart won Culloden!!!

Congrats Charlie!!!
Your boy went OTJ quickly just like my two boys.
Advice I have for you is to stick to the low carb diet....do not become complacent with diet. I do a BG check every few weeks unless I spot even the smallest change in behavior. We feed them FF every 4-6 hours depending on what's going on but on most days it's every 4 hours. I also buy the Young Again Zero Carb regular kibble not the mature and they get a tablespoon a few times a day.

We're very happy for the two of you.....congrats:bighug::bighug:

Congrats! It's the best feeling, isn't it? Agree with the above re: feeding. Henry gets 5 small low-carb meals a day; it can be inconvenient sometimes, but that's a small price to pay for remission. He's been OTJ since January 1 and I still test him once every week to 10 days.

Ah, FOOD NOTE: Thai remained on Fancy Feast classics (2, 3 oz cans a day) for a couple of months after going OTJ but eventually got the the point where she was refusing to eat. Her BG was staying around 65 that entire time. She is now on a mix of EVO low carb dry food and the vet prescribed Purina DM dry food and then Fancy Feast classics. She eats half a can of FF in the morning with 1/4 cup of the dry mix and then half a can at night with another 1/4 cup of the dry mix. This seems to be working well for her and her BG is staying around 74.

Just a thought of something you may want to try if Charlie is a crunchy addict.

Fortunately, he's not! He'd never had canned food until this whole thing started but he went straight from 100% free-fed kibble to canned food with nothing in between. The EVO has occasionally sounded tempting for convenience sake; if I'm going to be gone at all I need to have my neighbor come in twice a day to feed them. She's a cat person herself but I still hate having her do it. I just don't want to change his food up too often because he did get suddenly finicky when I did change his food one time too often in a short time!
