OTJ cat for over a year

Thankfully he is still eating but not as much as he used to .... I cannot afford to take him to the vet at the moment as I am on a very fixed income (most of which goes to rent) ... he has been on the same 4 flavors from Friskies for a very long time (6-12months I think) ... while I might be able to pick up a few seperate cans of different flavors, none of the bulk packs besides the one we currently get are all flavors he will (a) eat and (b) are safe for a diabetic (ie gravy) ... he currently eats Friskies and there are days that he does eat his usual 1.5 cans (whether in the half-can servings I used to give or the 0.25 can at shorter intervals) but there are other days where I have to put the liver dust sprinkles, heat it up a tiny bit or combinations to get him to eat a full can or a bit more ... he is still using his box and seems to be going poo as well as pee and his blood sugars when I check are in his usual range (typically dark green on the spreadsheet).
 
The reply I have seen over on facebook is that I need to try a non-Purina product and I have no idea where to find one that I can afford on such a fixed income. With the increased prices of late, Friskies is already pushing our budget.
 
He has been eating less than he used to and sometimes needing enticements to eat ... (liver dust or heating it up a tiny amount) .... a couple were saying Purina has been producing bad food of late as well

Are you feeding Purina?
I am wondering if he might be nauseated for some reason. Do you have am antinausea medication such as cerenia or ondansetron
you could give him?
 
Yes I feed Friskies which is by Purina and no I do not have any medication for my cat. He eats when I put him in front of the food and especially when it is the salmon flavor ....
 
Sometimes he eats just fine, like right now. But if it sits for a bit (he sometimes grazes), then it takes enticement to get him to eat the rest of it .... adding more water, adding liver dust or reheating the food a tiny bit (like 10 secs if there is half a portion or so)
 
Problem is there are very few other options that I can afford on disability. I get a multi-can pack and it is the only one where all of them are safe for diabetic (no gravy). Brands like 9Lives for example do not seem to be available and the only other option in my price range is Special kitty, then I have to buy it in individual cans because the multipacks all seem to have gravy.

I currently have an unopened case of his current food.

Some of the President's Choice cans are low carb. Strangely, the carb content varies depending on the size of the can.
There's also Performatrin (Pet Valu).
The information has not been updated recently. You may want to check the cans against the Typical Analysis columns.
Edit: The Dollar Store used to carry large cans of Friskies. Don't know if they still do.
 
Friskies is what he is already eating. I have tried to avoid loblaws stores cause their prices are insanely high comparitively. But thank you for the information.
 
In my area (Waterloo Region): All for the 5.5oz cans
Wal-Mart has Friskies for $0.80 a can and Special Kitty $0.70
PC $1.29
Perfomatrin for the 5.5oz cans is $2.89

I have not seen 9Lives but will continue to look .... you can see my issue when on disability of which 2/3 goes towards rent.
