OTJ but BGs higher than they normally are?

Cedric has been OTJ since 5/21, after having used Lantus for a month. I have been testing him since (see spreadsheet) and have gone down to once per week testing (but I seemed to have missed a couple of weeks from late September to early Oct; note I rescued a stray cat which was quite stressful to me).

Since he's been OTJ, his numbers are usually in the 60s. He gets about 6 oz of Wellness canned every day, served in 4 small meals through the day: 6am, auto feeder between 10 & 11am, auto feeder between 3& 4 pm and again at 8pm. Since Dallas has come into our home (he's the stray cat I rescued), Dallas is kept in my BR when I am not home, at this point to keep him from eating Cedric's food (what, you mean I can't eat his too, says Dallas...). They get along pretty well, although Cedric does "watch him" a bit. I am wondering if this is affecting Cedric's BGs.

Here are the BGs for Cedric since Dallas came home on 9/12:
9/14 63@5:30pm between meals 3 & 4
9/24 64@9am between meals 1 & 2
10/14 77@6:25pm *
10/21 83 @ 6:25am - he had eaten about 1/2 of his morning meal, equating to about 2 tablespoons, maybe a little less (eaten, not served). He's a slower eater than Dallas, and when he walks away I will pick up his food and give it to him later (when I am downstairs to watch or Dallas has been put in my room prior to me leaving for the office).

*I have been finding that Cedric is not eating his auto feeder food as much as he used to. Many times I have come home to find that he has not eaten his 2nd meal (I am usually home by 5pm) and he will eat it right then. Dallas gets fed again when I come home (he is given a frozen meal along with a little cold meal when he is put in my room for the day). Cedric is now given his 3rd meal a little later than the auto feeder (if he doesn't eat what is in there). They are both fed again at 8pm.

Any thoughts on why his BGs are higher than normal? Should I test him more frequently to try to help spot a problem? I realize 70s - 80s aren't bad, but he's been pretty consistent all summer. confused_cat

I did post this in Lantus, but wanted to post it here for other opinions...

Jesse,

I can only tell you what I have been seeing over the last year with Maxwell, he always seems to run a little higher as the weather gets colder. During the summer, he runs in the 50s & 60s. But when winter hits he starts running in the 60s & 70s. At least in his case since winters are COLD here I think it may have to do with that he exercises less perferring to spend alot of his day either sun bathing in the window, or curled up on the bed (I turn the electric blanket on for him).

I also just went through a bout of Maxwell and Lady Jane Grey not eating well on their current diet, so last night just for a change of pace for them I switched up brands, they were getting Turkey & Giblet, Mixed Grill and Super Supper Special Kitty, last night I got them the same flavors but in Friskies. Served up the Friskies last night, and they ate like they were starving. So if you have been serving the same thing to Cedric for awhile you might want to switch it up some, he mayjust be bored with the same old same old. Think of it this way, no matter how much you love t-bone steak if you had to eat it for months on end you would get pretty sick of t-bones, and start craving Mac 'n' Cheese or hot dogs...lol

A cat is considered normal between 40-120 with the majority of the time in double digits, so his numbers are within normal range. Were they in a lower range previously and that is why you are concerned?

Sorry, I di have a typo that I fixed -I had typed "are bad" instead of "aren't bad." fixed.
he just seemed consistantly in 60s and the last two times have been higher than that. I'll test him again on Sunday, and maybe again early next week - he'll get tested next weekend too when my dad is here w/his wife. It's just the panicy in me who's afraid he'll jump back in the dance.... nailbite_smile
