I am just so excited to celebrate Spider's 2 year anniversary of being off insulin, I had to make a post. Spider switched to Lantus in early 2013 after a 5 day stay at with a specialist. They provided my regular vet with the treatment plan for Lantus, and a few months later, my fur baby was ready to go OTJ. Two years later, he is thriving, still insulin free! My vet, who had very little experience with diabetes before Spider, has continued to work with the specialist to learn more and has had 3 other cats go into remission following the protocol for Lantus and recommding a low carb diet for them.

Thanks to all who helped Spider, me and his dad 2+ years ago when we thought diabetes was a death sentence for our fur baby!

I am so happy for Spider and you. We all love seeing our babies energetic and forever young. Love the idea of starting this post to mark his second anniversary of being off insulin. This is encouraging.

So happy to hear of Spider's OTJ success story - such a great example of what love & commitment to effective treatment can do!
Also is wonderful to know that you have a motivated vet who was so willing to learn more about treating diabetes, too! It's a win all 'round!!! :)
Congratulations and best wishes for a bright future with your handsome kitty!:joyful:
HOORAY FOR SUPER-SPIDER!!! :D (P.S. Bat-Bat saw Spider's close up & said, "Me-WOW!":cat:)

CONGRATULATIONS ON YEAR 2!!

That's really great that not only is Spider doing so well, but you've been able to help other sugarcats out by helping your vet learn about how to better treat his diabetic kitties!!

Thank you everyone for your kind encouragement and congratulations for Spider. Without the help of people on this board, we wouldn't have been nearly as successful. I always have a fear in the back of my head that he will need to be back on insulin again, but I know we will deal with it if and when it happens. The vet thinks that adopting my kitten last year has also been incredibly helpful because Spider is so active now when he plays with her (she just turned 1).

Thanks again, everyone!
