My cat is 18 years old. He was diagnosed with diabetes about 2 years ago, but I caught it early, changed his diet to all canned and have been in remission since. Took him into the vet the other day as he has been drinking more, howling/ meowing in empty rooms etc. After blood work they said he has a heart murmur rating of 3 out of 6 with 6 being worse. No Meds on this as vet said it's not bad enough. was also diagnosed with renal deficiency with creatine levels I believe of 2.8 which is elevated. Everything else in bloodwork was norm. I read in other posts that phosphorus levels in the food should be low and I'm wondering if I need to switch foods? I'm currently doing FF gourmet varieties but see that the EVO foods have lower phosphorus levels. Any thoughts from people with experience with this?

Thanks in advance !

Re: OTJ and recent diagnosis of renal deficiency-food change

Hi there. I am on my way out the door, but I wanted to point you to some CRF links in my signature. My cat Spader had diabetes and renal failure and I was able to mostly turn both diseases around, mainly due to a diet change.

Generally speaking, Friskies Special Diet flavors without gravy worked best for us. Low in carbs and phosphorus.

I mention food stuffs in the links.

Gotta go to the niece's soccer game. :)
