Other test strips for Alpha track 2

Hi all. Again I am looking for advice. As you all know the Alpha track strips are ridiculously expensive. Anyone feel really confident with the use of another strip in this meter? I am whipping through them and having a cheaper option would be great but not if I sacrifice accuracy... thanks yet again. I wish I could hug you all

You've probably already been asked this but have you thought about using a human meter for testing? If nothing else, you could use it for the majority of your testing and then use your AT if you're doing a curve or worried about hypo. The cost difference is crazy. I can buy 100 test strips for 23.00.

FreeStyle InsulinX, same company, same strip. LITERALLY.
$30 for 100 on Amazon right now - that's a $70 difference as AT would be $100 for 100.
Ebay sometimes does a good deal.

Hey, Nicole! The FreeStyle strips...are they intended for humans or pets, or both?
NEVER MIND!!! I See the answer in your signature!

Hoping your night with Tigger goes well despite the extra bit o'insulin. :bighug:

Thank you. So just so I understand correctly, You are saying they are exactly the same and you get the same readings? Do you yourself use them in an Alpha track? Also do I just use any of the known cat codes if I switch? It would truly make a huge financial difference but I want to make sure the readings won’t be skewed. As for the advice to use a human meter my vet basically insisted on Alpha track so that’s what I did. my other concern is the numbers on a human meter would probably confuse me at this point so I prefer not to switch for my intestines sake

I also considered switching but I've gotten to know the Alpha Track so well now, I am just going to wait. I myself use the InsulinX strips pretty exclusively in it. I have it on 38 as that was my last code from AT, but you can match your current AT code. FreeStyle Lite also work well (again same company). There is also a "generic" AT strip, or atleast that is how they market it, called PetSure. They were ok, and plenty cheap, but I didn't love them. Maybe in a year when I have more data on Tigger. You can see the results from my comparison trials on Tigger's spread sheet. InsulinX, Freestyle Lite, and PetSure each have their own tab.

Thank you. So you feel pretty confident that the insulin x strips give you the closest result to the AT2 strips? It would be great not only financially but availability in local stores and not having to order on line.

I used FreeStyle Lite strips in the past - same results. The current batch I use is Insulinx, and the same results. Both are inexpensive, and the occasional ebay offer may be cheaper than Amazon.

Also consider that every single spot test from any meter can be 20% off. That is the built in error margin. Therefore with the same strips and meter you can test 3 times in a row and potentially get results of 80, 100, and 120. That is a contributing reason for doing multiple tests if your kitteh's BG is quite low.

Unfortunately they are not in local stores. In fact neither are AT, although your vet might sell them, I THINK they are only from chewy, amazon, etc.
