OT - Switching to Reli-On meter

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of switching to a Reli-On meter because the test strips are A LOT cheaper than One Touch ohmygod_smile . Does anyone know it there will be a difference in BG readings between the two and if any adjustments will need to be made if/when I make the switch? I suppose I could double test for a bit to see if there are any significant differences.

Thoughts?

HI Klaree, I think there are differences between and among all meters, even identical ones. Just pick one and stick with it. I have a ReliOn Ultima and a ReliOn Micro (which I bought to have as a back-up). I tested them both on myself for comparison and the Micro was about 20 points higher. Then I tested them both on Stu: same result. Can you guess which one I use?? The important thing to remember is that these bg meters are not intended for scientific measurements. As long as your meter is more-or-less consistent with itself, that is all you need for our purposes.
Although I hate to shop at a Walmart, I must admit that their strips are very reasonable!

I tested the Relion against a One Touch Ultra mini and an Accu Check Aviva, the numbers were very close, I'm now using the Relion and am very happy with it.

I switched for price reasons too and am happy with the Relion.
 
Thanks guys! Good to know. I really don't have another option at this point, Ollie has cleaned us out financially the last two months. But not testing often is not an option :mrgreen:. I'm off to Walmart tomorrow.

I'm a little late to the party, but I just wanted to say that I use the Relion micro meter for Spot. You can't beat $20 for 50 strips, especially for as much as we test!
 
we also use the relion and have since diagnosis. Never had a problem with it and the test strips are the best price around!
 
Now, we have all done this two meter thingy.... :lol: and IF you keep on using 2 meters you will be doubling the strip price, right? PLUS, you will never have a moment's rest! Believe me... :lol: I originally had the Contour and I really liked it...until I tried the Reli-On micro....the test strips are like 40 cents each...not so hard to part with. It was also reading a bit lower than the Contour so I was happy with that when Raja was getting lower number. I would rather err on the side of caution.
So I hope you enjoy the Reli-On.....
side story: I went to Walmart yesterday to buy strips...of course, I bought a ton of other stuff once I was there. (naturally!) I got home and guess what I was missing? The little box of test strips! grr_red I went back to Walmart. I searched the carts near the door that I came out of, I went to the register but of course the person who checked me out wasn't there anymore and they didn't have the box...I went then to the pharmacy thinking that maybe they were returned there...no luck but the one woman said to go to the front of the store to the service counter. :roll:
Off I went, waited in line. :roll: "This is RIDICULOUS" I said to myself as I waited. They are going to say..."tough break, lady" so why am I waiting here? My turn came. I went up and told them my tale of woe...I said they are $20 too!! So, they told me to go get another box and the they gave it to me... "Yay! :o REALLY???" says I as I jumped up and down!
I am going to be a LOT more careful with that precious little box the next time I go to Walmart...but that was nice of them, wasn't it?
 
I love my Wavesense Presto from Bartell Drug (Washington drug store). Retests are always within 2-4 points. No "codes" to enter. And the strips are cheap ($22 for 50, $37 for 100). I've only been using it for a couple months, but so far it has been great. I believe it is also sold by Kroger's/QFC/Fred Meyer.

I started with a Accu chek Aviva. Loved it! It was so fast at sipping up the small amount of blood that it needed. It was very user friendly. But for money reasons, as you know I switched and bought a Relion Ultra. It isn't as fast as the Aviva but you can't beat the price of the strips. I have been using it now since Dec and have no problems with it. I tried it against the Aviva and it was very close so I'm keeping that meter for a backup. I like to send it to my cat sitter when I go away. I think you'll be very happy with it.

And Pat lucky you. Walmart is walmart but they are usually pretty good about stuff like that.
 
I use the Maxima AST , ordered from Hocks. $16.50 for 50 strips, shipping is free over $80 and no sales tax. Down side is that you have to plan ahead. Oh. you can get the meter w/ 2 boxes of strips for the price of the strips in the "blood glucose meter-deals" in the diabetic supplies section. I have a One Touch Ultra Mini for backup and reading are very close when I've checked.
