Tonight I noticed a spot that Lucky was pulling fur from. It's not uncomon during spring for her to begin to pull her fur out. She has allergies to her atmosphere. It didn't concern me until I felt a raised bump and it looks a little scaby but not from blood. Not sure if she is allergic to the wet food she's getting or if it's just from seasonal allergies. I recently introduced her to Purina One smart blends chicken. I only bought 3 cans , and she's had 2 already. Not sure if that is from the new food? I've also been giving her 1/4 of a tablet of Zyrtec for seasonal allergies. I know her asthma has gotten worse due to allergies. So it could very well be an allergic reaction to the Zyrtec. But not sure if it is allergies or not. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it. I don't see her cleaning the area constantly. It's a rough raised bump about the size of a pencil eraser. I have taken a photo of it. It doesn't show it being raised very well but you can see the crusty scab on top of it.

Smokie another cat of mine when he was around 3 had scabs around his neck and face and down his back. But it was scabs though which looks different from what Lucky has. His was due to food allergies. She does have a seafood allergy which any food I get must not have seafood. She pulls her fur out with that too.

Just wondering if anyone else had something similar with their cat? What was it? Just trying not to let my mind wander to bad thoughts. But I worry so easily.

Any help would be appreciated!

While we can give you ideas, what you really need to do is take her to the vet.
Hives, infection, skin cancer, etc can all look the same.

Ex My civvie Tux gets mast cell tumors - smooth, pearly, rounded - until pathology was done on it, we didn't know what it was.

A skin scraping will provide some cells to view under a microscope.
An excisional biopsy may both treat it and identify it.

I plan on taking her to the vet. My vet isn't open until Tuesday, and not sure when I'll be able to get her in with the holiday coming up. Hoping it's something simple, or an allergy. I'd rather it not be anything serious. Was hoping to calm my worries a little. It also concerns me because she's my diabetic who is not on insulin and in remission just on wet cat food. It scares me that this might set her out of remission.

Is that a yellowish scab? Any oozing from it? Is she licking it a lot?

My girl Anabelle gets spots similar to those. She has for years, vet has done scrapings, allergy tests, have no idea what they are. We just call them "hot spots". She can go months without having one though.

It happens it various places on her body, usually front legs, chest or tummy. Always a place she can reach and lick (not on back, top of head or anything). I'll know she has one because I will see her lick a certain spot incessantly. I will see her doing that and tell my husband, it looks like Anabelle it getting a "spot". We dont know if the licking causes the spot, or if it bothers her and that's why she licks. She will loose her hair in the spot, develop a yellow raised crusty scab, sometimes it oozes a little clearish yellowish liquid. It heals up in a few days and the hair slowly grows back.

They sleep on organic blankets and I wash everything in mild unscented soap, so I dont think it's any kind of contact allergy, especially since it comes and goes.

Over the winter she had couple spots on her tummy, for some reason I though maybe it was the heated bed she was sleeping on constantly, maybe just getting her tummy too warm. So I unplugged the bed and she hasn't had another one.

Let me know what the vet says.

It's raised with clear/yellowish crusty stuff. It's raised like a bump but not sure if it's scabbing or her skin. I talked to a friend who works at a vet office. She said keep giving her the zyrtec that it looks like a hot spot. If it starts getting better keep her on the zyrtec. This morning I looked at it and it was not red any more and did look like it was getting better. I will try to get a better picture for everyone qhen I get home if I can. She's not too fond of me playingnaround with her legs\paws. :-D
