Is a high protein food, such as Evo 95% Beef, Chicken, or the other 2 flavors good to prevent renal failure? I seriously don't want to go through this again, if I can help it. It may have been too little too late for my beloved Jr. Mint, however, IF I can fend off another of these with the rest of my babies, I'd love to do so. Thank you.

The lowest one I found was EVO 95% Chicken&Turkey at 0.88% phosphorus. Not bad.
EVO Beef is 1.24%. Ideally it is recommended to feed 0.5% or below, but it seems only the prescription stuff is that low.

Re: OT - Question About Diet To Hopefully Prevent Renal Fail

Thank you, Bruce. I found out through Evopet.com that the Evo 95% Chicken & Turkey, which Blackie is eating, is 0.23% in phosporous. I think the lower the phosporous levels, the better to prevent (hopefully) renal disease in the other cats. They all have 2 double sided bowls of water, which I fill up twice daily with fresh. All I can do is slowly and steadily introduce them all to the Evo diet.

Re: OT - Question About Diet To Hopefully Prevent Renal Fail

Dr. Lisa's website has a list of low phosphorus foods that can help guide your choices. The unfortunate reality is that many cats experience kidney issues as they age. It's why we really push people to keep their diabetic cats BG levels under renal threshold (around 220 but it varies for every cat). Blackie's numbers are in a good range with respect to renal health.

Thank you, Sienne, and Michelle, too. I try and maintain her #s within the healing range as you all know. She's not the issue here, thank goodness. It's the others that I'm concerned about at this moment, especially due to our recent loss. I don't want this to happen again to anyone else.
