So Cedric passed away and Dallas decided he wanted a buddy to play with while Mommy is at work all day, every day.
So Thomas comes into our lives after being rescued from a McDonald's in early January. Rescuer took him to a neighbor's who turned around and took the cat to a shelter for 2 weeks, rescuer asked her to get the cat back, then rescuer took the cat in for almost a month with her 8 cats, then he's been living with us for the past 2 weeks. Whew!

he was scheduled to go to the vet today. I was finally able to get his medical records from the shelter in Tampa to see what he needed. Vet said he needs a booster shot and they want to check his poop for parasites. Considering what I just went though with Dallas, I was ok with that. Thomas wouldn't get into the carrier, fought me tooth and nail. I had a towel he has been laying on in there and sprayed the pheromone spray. he started getting mad, and I don't know if he's a biter - I think not, but didn't want to chance it. he kept swatting at me with his paw then hid under the bed again. I called to tell them we wouldn't be coming, gave him a snack and left for work.

I am so concerned that he thinks he's being given away again....I am so sad. Please send prayers/good thoughts/ etc to Thomas so that he doesn't feel this way....

My Dakota was bounced around and went thru that same thing the first time I had to take him to the vet - he just knew he was losing again. He cried softly the whole way, the most pitiful cry...I kept telling him he'd be coming back home but he couldn't listen - he was too upset. After the vet appt and the ride home, when he got here he was a different cat - he'd come back HOME! He seemed to know then that he wasn't going anywhere else.

Lots of prayers for sweet Thomas and for you too Jesse.

Oh Honey!

Good vibes and your in your furever home thoughts on their way for Thomas. You might want to try what I'm doing with Mariposa. She's much better with us now about coming for affection but is still tramatized about enclosed spaces or carried. So we're doing baby steps. I started by leaving open carriers around so she could go in and out at her leisure. Also at the same time picking her up and taking as many steps as I can before she freaks. The minute I feel her start to panic I put her down and give her a treat. Once we can walk around the house and be put in a carrier (not there yet) then the game plan is closing the door and lifting the carrier, sit it right back down. When that's easy the carrying the carrier out the door and back in. Then short trips like around the block then longer trips until we can make it all the way to the vet's.

Aw poor Thomas. I remember having to surprise Alska by grabbing him fast and throwing him in the carrier. It broke my heart that I had no way of telling him that he was going to be brought back. He cried and cried....

He became a completely different cat when I brought him home though. More secure... more assured that this was his forever home.

So... if you can get through the hard part - the result is pretty rewarding.

It just may be a little too soon for Thomas.

Hugs

he seems to be ok. I started using the baby gates last night. He seems comfortable in his room but does venture out a little bit (this morning he had the 2nd floor to himself, took a look around then went back to his room). His belly seems to be sticking out on the sides, but I am not sure if that is from breakfast. He took 1/2 a 5.5 oz can of friskies this morning. I gave him 1/4 cup of his kitty crak (foster mom had him on Blue Buffalo Basic) just now as I am getting reaty to leave for work.

He did spit up a little bit on his blanket again. It is definately canned food. Foster mom did give him canned food along with his dry. Maybe what I gave him was too much? She gave him 1/2 can of FF twice a day.

He is rescheduled for a vet visit on the 29th but I am on the fence. He needs the booster of the luke shoot. They can check his poop if I drop it off. Thoughts?

Oh, boy- poor Thomas!

See if they can check poop if dropped off and the initial vettie visit might be like yanking off a band-aid since it is so soon.

Yes, they confirmed they will do that. I will check his box tomorrow then run by (out of the way, but heck) to drop it off. Or I might wait until Sat and stop on my way to work at Disney
