I'm still a little in shock. It all happened so fast.

Our dog was running up the stairs after my two civvie cats and, I don't know if she fell down the stairs, but she twisted something in her back. She couldn't stand, was yelping and barking.

We rushed her to the Emergency Vet. Their initial assessment was she has some deep pain in her rear area. They gave her morphine and a sedative to ease the pain. They're taking x-rays and will know better in an hour what's going on.

The Vet gave a range of something as simple as a fractured hip to a full on spinal cord sever.

My daughter is really broken up about it right now, this is her dog. I'm trying to hold it together for her so that I can comfort her.

Re: OT- My dog Nola is at the Emergency Vet

I am so sorry! Sending healing vines to Nola, paws crossed. Please keep us updated as you can.

Re: OT- My dog Nola is at the Emergency Vet

The Vet just called.

Nola ruptured a disc. It's too much money for us to do the surgery , they want $7000.

Our other option is medical management, there's only a 50/50 chance that it'll work. She'd have to stay at the Vet for a week and they would know by the 3rd day if it was working. IV drip of morphine and no movement, only to the bathroom and that's it. If it doesn't work we would have to let her go.

This all stinks because Wednesday is my Son's high school graduation.

Re: OT- My dog Nola - We're walking her to the bridge

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

We've decided we're going to walk Nola to the bridge and let her go.

We can't bear the thought of her being in constant pain even if the cage confinement worked.

This was THE best dog ever. She was so good.

Oh Cathy. I am so very sorry. Please know my heart is with you through this difficult time. ((((Hugs))))

We visited with her one last time. We took some pictures. She was wagging her tail the whole time.

You could tell she was in so much pain. The Vet said the morphine wasn't even helping.

This all took 4 hours. I can't believe how fast it went. I'm still in disbelief.

We came home and the first thing I did was go to the patio door because it's hot outside and Nola needed to be let in. Then I realized, she's not there.

My deepest condolenses to you and your family. I'm so very very sorry for your loss of your special Nola. She is not in pain any more and you gave her the ultimate gift of letting her go on her journey over the rainbow bridge.
Big Hugs to you all... wings_cat

I'm so sorry things worked out this way. Sometimes we have to make a difficult decision to end our furbaby's suffering. Remember you did what was best for Nola. I will be praying for your family.

Awww...Cathy! I am so sorry such accident happened; esp it happened at home. Your daughter must be heartbroken. Nola is not in pain anymore, she is healthy & young & forever living with your family until one fine day you're ready to ask her to move on. Nola just exsisted in another form. Yes, I beleive this firmly. Take care!

Sending lots of prayers your way

Fly free Nola..... You are making lots of friends at the bridge

Dear (((((Cathy and family))))),

We are so sorry to hear about Nola's accident. Sometimes things like this just happen. You gave her a happy, loving life and you have given her a wonderful gift by not allowing her to live the rest of her life in pain. At the Bridge she will have many companions to play with. Fly free, sweet Nola. You are much loved.

In deepest sympathy,

Ella & Edward, Rusty, and Stu (GA)

Thanks everyone for your beautiful, kind thoughts.

My daughter was so upset last night she gave herself a migraine. My eyes are swollen, I look like a frog.

This morning being up early to take care of Cini Mini, I am sitting here with all of Nola's memories. Her pillows, her toys, her collar, her bowls .... her dog poop in the back yard. Aside from the poop, I don't know if I should gather everything up yet or let it sit out for another day. I guess I'll see what my daughter wants to do today.

I can tell I am in the "anger" phase. I just keep thinking "Damn dog! Why did you have to chase the cats!"
