OT - misplaced aggression

I am having a terrible issue.

A house kitty that is let outide to be in our neighborhood came up to our door wall. My cat Mycroft went bat s**t. Osha walked over to see what was going on and Mycroft turned that aggression on Osha. This was last night.

Nothing is better. Mycroft attacks Osha like it is a life or death situation. Until yesterday they were best kitty loves. He still wants to kill her. What in the world do I do? I am at a loss. They would snuggle and groom each other and now he is super mean.

My heart is sad.

Suggestions?

Aawww. Poor Osha (and Mycroft). Do you have any Feliway? Don't have any other suggestions. Is the aggession just in that area or everywhere?

my cat Julie had this with my father in law when a loud Crack of thunder scared her..... He was in the room. She stalked and attacked him for weeks until they gave her to us and said take her or put her outside. Feliway helps.

You'll probably have to treat them like they're new to each other for awhile.

Re-introduce slowly....just like you would if you'd just brought a new cat into the house. One cat stays in a bedroom (or whatever) while the other has the rest of the house. Several times a day, swap them so both are re-introduced to the other's scents and reestablishing ownership of the house.

You can also do things like take a towel or sock and rub one cat and then go rub the other...."scent-swap" so they're reminded of each other without the visual

After a few days, try a gate between them and feed on opposite sides (as far apart as you have to) then gradually move the food closer and closer to the gate .....as long as they can eat in each other's presence you just keep moving them closer until you feel comfortable removing the gate.

Also check out Rescue Remedy for Pets ...is a natural calmer . I agree with Carol ...this will probably take some time to diffuse and calm down from . Prayers for successful reuniting of these buddies :bighug:

Thanks everyone! I have them separated and will work on slowly reintroducing them. It is just so sad to see how Mycroft is acting with Osha. They were the best of friends until this. The morning before this happened they were having one of their daily grooming sessions with each other before I left for work.

I observed this first hand when my friend (a feline vet) had this very situation - she re-introduced very slowly and at any sign of a backslide, quickly separated them again and started all over. It can take weeks to months - here's another article by Jackson Galaxy
I'm so sorry, Amanda. This is going to be stressful for all involved- I hope it is over quickly

Yes. Been there. I always separate them. Then a careful re-introduction . It's the fastest and best way, though annoying, because separate kitty litter pans, and food are necessary.

YES! It works.

Oh, good luck! How awful for everyone... It sounds like it's going to be a big challenge for you for a while, but it will be worth it in the end if you can get them to accept each other again... :bighug:

I had this happen once or maybe twice, but I only remember once clearly, when my cat JD was in a cat fight outside and I brought him in and he attacked my other cat Buddy who has his snuggle buddy, like yours are. It was scary. Luckily it only lasted a very short time for my two. I'm sure eventually you will have this resolved. I hope that neighborhood cat stays inside his house. You might have to talk to that neighbor.
