Hi everyone,
I am sorry if my absence on the Board this summer has worried anyone. The first half of July was incredibly busy, and then I crashed. The reason for the crash: Lyme Disease caused by a tick bite while on a hike in late April. I found the tick when I got home and pulled it out with a "tick key", but I mauled it in the process. I thought I was safe because I removed it only about 4 hours after it attached. WRONG! The symptoms all came simultaneously in mid July: swollen joints and muscle pain, stiff neck, incredible fatigue, etc. Of course I tested negative for Lyme (very common). My new doctor humored me and prescribed the standard 20-day course of antibiotics. The joints and muscles are OK now, but I am still fatigued. I've been reading the scientific literature and I think that if I don't improve in the next few days I will require another course of a/bs. I will discuss this with my doctor next week. She doesn't think I have Lyme. And she rattled off a list of the 1001 diseases of man that I might have!! But given the fact that I had the bite and then many of the classic symptoms, I don't see what else it could possibly be. It came on so suddenly. I am a very active person and am never sick!

Gus is a wonderful kitty and is watching over me. Edward is doing many of my chores, in addition to his own. We all send you our greetings and I will keep you posted on what happens next.

Hugs to you all and scritches to your kitties,

Sending you lots of hugs and your story sounds like mine except I didn’t find a tick on me rather the bulls eye target on my chest! I tested negative too but had all the symptoms! I was one tired hurting puppy!

Lucky my doc gave me the 21 days of AB Anyway but it reared it’s ugly head again the next year. That’s when I found my incredible homeopath who had had Lyme herself.

Glad that Gus is such a sweet kitty!

Lyme sucks so bad. I was diagnosed as a result of what we thought was a UTI and a severe reaction to the antibiotics I was given for that. Seemingly the lyme disease had been in my system for several months prior. I just put the symptoms down to getting older (they were so gradual). Anyway 30 days of doxy and I felt better but it took me about 5-6 months to feel normal. I never found a tick on me or had the typical target..go figure. I live in New England so always check after doing yard work. Feel better soon, but stay on top of it it's a nasty disease. :bighug:

So sorry to hear you're going through this. Lyme's is such a baffling disease - I don't know why the docs can't recognize the obscurity of those classic symptoms and treat prophylactically - better that than nothing! At least hopefully now you're on the road to recovery! Sending our strong healing vines your way - glad to hear Gus is doing so well :)
