Hi guys, I posted a topic in health asking questions and for pointers about CKD and arthritis if anyone has advice for when I talk to the vet tomorrow? I have the names of the injections (Adequan/cartrophen) from some members but after talking to a vet tech today I had some more need for pointers since they said with her CKD she shouldn't have injections  It's here:

Thanks and hugs to you all :-D

My civvie GA Mario, wasn't full blown CKD, but also didn't have perfect kidney function either. He was on Adequan for almost 2 years, and really gave him amazing QOL. During that time, he had very frequent BW done because he was also HyperT, and he didn't have any progression of his kidney issues. I hope you're able to find the info you're looking for...I'd be interested for future reference, just so I could be properly informed should the issue come up again. Adequan was a lifesaver for Mario.

Thanks Amy, I'm not sure if we can get Adequan in Canada, but I will mention it and the Cartrophen again ;-) It could be since they only stock Metacam that that is what they think all injections do...

punkin also had the beginnings of kidney disease, of course diabetes too, and we used adequan for a long time. i'd have to look at his ss to know how long, but i would guess at least a year. his kidneys didn't fail him, so i don't think the adequan harmed him in any way and i do think it helped him move more comfortably.

what do you mean when you say the vet stocks Metacam? you mean they use it on cats? there's a black box warning in the US against using it on cats because it can cause liver failure. I suspect you know that by the way you mentioned it, but just want to flag it in case that's new to you.

good luck with your vet appt tomorrow!

Thanks Julie :-D I hope I get to talk to the vet instead of a tech since I'm just popping in on my lunch break with some info they'd asked for on her supplements she's taking etc. I'm hoping I can find Adequan or they can, it looks like it's out of stock a lot of places online that I've looked at if I can get a prescription for it. I was reading not so great things about the Cartrophen but am still researching, and I've seen some on here have used it with no issues that were mentioned.

I do know about Metacam, sorry I'd written more on my post in health. When I asked if I could get Adequan and asked what they had the tech said the only thing they stock is Metacam and it isn't good for kidney animals. I don't know exactly who or what they do give it to but I do have a note I had them add to Chynas file not to use it or Convenia from when I switched vets in Feb...
