OT: Best ways to record purrs, and kitty chatter

Someone mentioned getting recordings of their cat's purr's and other vocalizations.
I'm looking for a good way to do that because I want to have that in the future .
So please share ideas .
I didn't think my camcorder would be so good since I often get just a 10-20 second sound out of Shadow....

Her most and best frequent one is when we are in bed... in the dark.... and I reach over and touch her and she makes a urrrrr kitty sound that is acknowledging
being touched... it's very sweet ... ( like " huh?" or " I"m here" )
I don't think reaching over to grab the camcorder would do much and most likely I'd miss the moment and it's dark.
So I was looking at getting her little noises... her little kitty grunts..... and purrs.... as many as I can.

I have this in my cart while i explore other possibilities.

Rhiannon, I have an inexpensive voice activated recorder, that I used to capture Checkers talking to himself at night.

He used to walk the hallway, calling "hellooooooooooooo" it was very eerie, and would have scared the dickens out of a house guest
Problem was, it kept recording the noisy central heater that's in an alcove in the hall.
It would work great for you, if it was kept close by.
Mine's a Vextra. I got it in a drugstore. It's palm size.

I have an app called iTalk recorder on my iPhone. My favorite recording is Neko's purr. I also use it for meeting minutes. :? It's easy to start and use, perfect for a little late night non intrusive recording.

Those are good ideas . I've tried to do it on my camera (it has video) and it works somewhat for the purring but not the talking, by the time I get it she is done haha...I need an iphone! I think that's my next phone...6 more months on my smartphone contract...
