Good Morning LL. Muffin continues to do well, feel good, and be happy! Her brother Kibby, on the other hand, went to the vet yesterday. I noticed him feeling a little dirty, walking slowly down the stairs when he usually runs them, and just obviously not feeling good. So off to the vet we went. Having no info on his LB p's (he usually goes outside), he got a full exam and as he's prone to UTI's, a UA. In house showed several things high - ph and protein is all I can remember, so urine was sent out to the lab as well. But vet said UTI is probable. So I brought him home, and had to run out again. When I got home, he was still looking miserable, so I gave him a dose of bupe. 15 mins after this, he limped across the room and crawled up on the bed (would not jump). I called the vet back to tell them about the limping, and vet wants to see him again this morning. He'll probably shave his leg to see if there's a wound we missed under all that fur. He was put on a new AB - Orbax, as he doesn't tolerate Clavimox well. I've never used this AB before - seems to be chicken flavored or something.

The bupe really knocked him out last night - after crawling on the bed he slept for 5 hrs. I brought him dinner in bed, which he ate, bathed for 10-15 mins, and went right back to sleep. He was there for at least 10 hrs. This morning he limped downstairs before I could bring food to him, so I fed him on the floor. He ate everything and is now back upstairs on his little carpet, sleeping some more. Vet appt in an hour and a half. Please send healing vines for my sweet little guy, and he could really use a ktss visit later!

Thanks so much!

Oh Anne, I don't even know what to say. I feel so bad, that your kitty has an unexplained (as yet) problem.
I know how upsetting that is.
Please let us know what happened at the vet, okay?

Re: OT - 1/25 Muffin's civvie bro 2nd vet visit today

Thanks for all the vines and support! We have a negative on the UTI - all the lab found was protein in the urine, which could be due to the real problem we found today. Apparently Kibby was in a fight probably on sunday. He has 5 tiny puncture wounds around his now-naked right shoulder. He is more like his old self today, in that other than the limping, he seems to be in less general discomfort than he was yesterday. Fortunately there's no abscessing and very little swelling, so "know thy cat" pays off again and we caught it early. Also fortunate that he was put on AB's yesterday, so he's already got that going. Dr gave him a shot of Dexamethasone (?) to help with swelling. He is of course to complete the AB course and warm compresses twice daily. I asked whether I should dope him up again today with bupe to keep him off of his leg as much as possible and doc said was good idea to limit his mobility for today and maybe tomorrow, but after that to let him get walking on it again.

He came home from the vet and ate a huge second breffis, so i think I'll wait a half hour to let that digest and time for the ktss before I give the bupe. I don't see Muffin here, so I assume she got picked up and is making the ktss rounds with the gang. See y'all when you get here!

Wow - and another testimonial to "know thy cat". I am glad that you did, and acted on what you felt. Good that you caught it early, before you had any serious problems.

Kibby - fear not - the KTSS is on our way... we had a slight delay to my silly bean hauling me off to the vetty place. shesshhhhh! See you soon! ~~ Mannie

I'm glad you caught this early and you certainly do know your cat(s)!!

Just an FYI - dexamethasone is a steroid. One shot will, in all likelihood do nothing except limit swelling.

Glad you found the injury Anne. Just curious if you can keep him indoors and change him into an indoor cat? Lots of bad things outdoors, bad people, etc. PS. Raccoons do carry diseases that cats can catch.

Sending hugs to Kibby.

You asked about Orbax. I have no clue exactly what it is, beyond "an antibiotic", but Megan has been on it twice (I think), and it worked great for her. No tummy problems and it cleared up the infection in question just as it was supposed to.

Good to know Jean, thank you. He seems to like the taste of it as well, but the administration? not so much.
Karrie - I will be keeping him indoors until this heals (or as long as possible) but these guys unfortunately have been indoor/outdoor their whole lives, and keeping them inside is pretty much impossible. So far he hasn't wanted to go out, but I know that will change as soon as he feels a little better. During the winter, tho, they are only out maybe 25% of the time. Muffin, on the other hand, chooses to be an indoor cat, except for her short ventures into the backyard for grass, during which I have to leave the door open or she'll panic.

Hope Kibby feels a lot better now that you know where the injury is--Poor baby--Hope he feels a lot better tomorrow!! Healing Hugs!!

Thanks Roni - he's already feeling a ton better. Gave him bupe earlier and he retreated to the bathroom cupboard for most of the afternoon. Then this evening he made his escape out the door and over the fence. He came back and ate like a horse and then wasn't even limping anymore. Still having trouble with the stairs tho. He's definitely on the mend already!

Muffin had a great time on the ktss rounds - she was very happy to see all her friends and couldn't believe how many got hauled off to the vet today! She said the furrari was a blast and wants to thank everyone for stopping by here for Kibby. The endless powers of the ktss - never ceases to amaze me!
