Hi all,
Has anyone experienced a change in kitty fur. Since we started insulin his coat has dandruff and no shine. He is great at grooming himself but it has a dry feeling to it. Any suggestions ?

Did you also change foods when you started insulin?

Most of the time we see bad coats and dandruff before we start treatment, but if you changed to a species appropriate diet when you started insulin, they actually will re-grow an entirely new coat as their nutrition improves....In the meantime though, they can look pretty rough

You might try adding a little oil to his food

I use Nordic Naturals Omega 3s for pets (from Amazon) and that combined with a canned/now raw diet, has increased Carter's coat significantly.

I can always tell when Squallie has an infection, or is somehow going to drop out of good regulation, by his coat. It will get greasy and he'll have a lot of dandruff. The only fix I've found is just to persevere and get his BG back under good control - sometimes easier said than done! Under good control his coat is soft and luxurious.

Thank you. Yes I changed his diet to wet food mixed with a little Young Again Zero. He is addicted to dry. Now he is mostly wet with some crunches. His coat has gotten very dry since the insulin. I will try the omegas. His bg numbers are getting better. Under 200 last 10 days. He loves brushing. Vet told me I may be brushing him too much which can cause dandruff. I don't know :)
