Talked to the vet tech this morning when I took Oscar back in. Hopefully he will pee today. They couldn't get urine out of him on Tuesday. We also need a health certificate so he can fly with us next weekend. We talked about a plan for his lungs. She is going to research a good antibiotic to start him on for like a month and recheck the x-rays after that. I suggested Zenequin, so we'll see what she comes up with this afternoon. If the antibiotic helps the look of the lungs, then it is an infection. If it doesn't at all, then it is probably scarring. I don't expect his lungs to look completely normal after only a month, but I hope to see progress.

His blood work is back, and a few things stand out to me. His liver enzymes are slightly elevated again and his amylase/lipase values are at the high end of the range, which suggests to me he may have a bit of pancreas inflammation. I will start him back on milk thistle this afternoon when he gets home.

What concerns me a bit is the fact that his CPK value, while still barely in normal range, has more than quadrupled since October. His cholesterol is significantly higher than last time, and his lymphocytes are still low. They were low last February before we started flovent, so I can rule out steroids as the cause.

The thyroid tests didn't really show anything, though I think I need to keep a watch on them. The T4 was at the low end of the normal range (1.2) but the Free T4 was at the high end of the range (43.6).

Here is a link to his bloodwork in spreadsheet form complete with normal ranges if you want to look at the whole thing:

Hopefully we will have urinalysis results back today.

I'd appreciate any insight!

The only items that really stand out are the relatively high but with range HCT and total protein. Those high values wold indicate to me dehydration.

Thank you Larry. His scruff doesn't show dehydration, but that may be why they are having a hard time getting urine out of him. I'll start adding a bit of water to his raw food when he gets back home.

I can't help you woth the bloodwork, but about the lung consolidation in felines- I looked it up, it's not good stuff - did you,or anyone you live with, have the H1N1 flu at any time?
I hope you have good results with the anitibiotics.

Nope never had h1n1. I have not gotten the flu in like 5 years and my husband got the vaccine through the army last year. We started a round of amoxacillin tonight twice a day and will continue with that for a month. If we see progress in his x rays in a month then we can rule it an infection. If not, then it is probably scarring unfortunately.

Thank you Celi! We need all the prayers and healing thoughts we can get. I pray that this is just an infection and not permanent scarring. nailbite_smile
