Hi All,
Well I have been off air for a while as DH has been very ill. However Oscar is doing really well on low carb ff wet food. I have only had a chance to test twice a day but he is staying down in the blues and greens. He has been off LANTUS for awhile as he was holding his own and I couldn't be around to test often enough (even though my intention was to continue with small dose longer) . He does seem more like his old self- bossy and active -so fingers crossed he is OTJ for awhile - at least until I get DH sorted.

It's not ideal but is working for the time being.

Thanks to all my mentors out there in FDMB world - I know it's not over but the hiatus is nice. If only a change of diet would help DH.

Talk soon,
Cheers Joan

i was wondering where you were. Great news on Oscar, sorry about dh. I hope he is better soon, Oscar is a sweetie to give you a break. Cheers, indeed.

Have been wondering about you Joan -- you were missed ! I'm sorry to hear DH is not well.

As for Oscar, I"m glad he is being bossy and active !! Happy cat is the best news. :-D

When the situation allows, it would be interesting to see what his numbers are doing at other times during the day. Otherwise, he is doing pretty darned good w/o any juice!
wondering --- are you still feeding him several small meals a day or did that change too due to the DH health?

I will look for an update when you are able. I hope he continues to be bossy

Sending healing wishes for DH's recovery. I hope with all the caregiving you take a moment to do something nice for you too.

(( Joan ))

Glad to see your post today Joan....best wishes for your DHs health to return....
Oscar is looking pretty nice in the blues and greens. Might be a good idea to test at +4 to see if his numbers have dropped 4 hours after eating....
Oh, and by the way, when we have not given insulin, the tests are shown as AMBG and PMBG...morning and evening Blood Glucose reading since they are not really PREshot numbers, right?

Hi thanks for well wishes. Seems DH is strained and in pain I think mostly comes from his massive fall about 2 months ago. We are in the city for more tests. DS is in charge of Oscar, I think Oscar does drop a bit low sometimes on the low carb diet so I told my son to feed him whenever he is hungry. I am trying to give him as many smaller feeds a day as possible but most days it is breakfast, lunch and tea. I will try to get some more bg tests when I get home.
Also problem with flies in our sheep so busy busy busy! What next?
Sorry- you all have your problems as well.
Thanks for the tip on 'lingo' (language and abbreviations) still getting the hang of it.
Anyway all is well in Blues and greens and I will do a curve and report in the near future.
thank you once again to my friends on FDMB.
Cheers Joan

You stated in your post and also on his ss he is otj --- he can't go too low if he is not getting any insulin. So no worries about that, k? You have enough other stuff on your plate.

Here is info on a cat's daily calorie needs is from Janet and Binky's site: http://binkyspage.tripod.com/foodfaq.html

Q. How many calories a day should my cat eat?
A. Short answer: Enough to maintain him or her at a healthy weight and activity level over long periods of time. Longer answer: The common wisdom is that a cat should eat 20-30 calories per pound of cat per day, depending on its activity level, need to gain or lose weight, and personal metabolism. However, some guardians of elderly diabetic cats have found that 20 calories per pound will cause their cat to gain weight. If the diet contains enough protein and essential nutrients, such a cat can do well on 15-20 calories per pound. Note that, according to the Merck veterinary manual, "healthy adult cats need ~5 g of protein of high biologic value per kg body wt/day." This translates to 8-9 calories from protein per pound body weight per day. From the same document, one can infer that AAFCO recommends that at least 7 calories per pound body weight should come from fat.

Healing wishes for your DH.

Thanks Cheryl,
I wondered because Oscar has gone down in the 3's on my monitor so I wondered about too low! . That's great - he's fine then.
Cheers Joan

3's?? meaning 30s ? I'm guessing 3 needs converting to mg/dl .
3 converted would be around 54. w/ no insulin that's beautiful number.

one other tip. I see where someone suggested you post your number as ambg since you are not shooting.
I would take it a bit further and post number as + from last shot. which is what is usually done when someone is on a OTJ trial.
so... it was 12 1/2 days from last shot. assuming your am test today was at the same time of day you would of shot -- at the 12 hr mark...... today's amps/ambg = +300 100 . sound right to you ?

look forward to those extra numbers . but 54 somewhere in the middle--- wow. don't see that in your chart. hope you will add when you are able.
