Orion's dose

Please have a look at Orion's numbers. Do you think 1.5 units would cause him to go to low? Is 1 unit a good dose? I'm finding those 300 numbers to be bothersome.

I would get a nadir overnight to see if he is dropping low and bouncing for amps. Also, a daytime curve would let you see if there is a lower number before or after +6. If either one of those things apply, then increasing may make it worse. Also, one unit on a 398 brings him down almost two hundred points (or maybe lower). Shooting that same dose into a 190 could really make him drop.

I'd suggest you trim your dose from -200 shot to .5. Then get that data to see any other hidden lows.

I will be home all day Wednesday. I could do a curve then. Should I do the curve on a 1 unit dose? Is it common for there for be such a variation in numbers on Prozinc or to vary a dose depending on the PS number? My last diabetic was on Lantus and I don't recall this much variation.

Because ProZinc is not a depot insulin, it's sort of "what you see is what you get". You consider each preshot and nadir. There is no overlap. The nice thing about this is that you can adjust the dose more readily and be flexible in terms of a 12/12 schedule. The harder part is that you adjust the dose more readily!

Orion doesn't like to sit in once place very long, so I fill the syringe first then get the meter and grab him. If I wait to fill the syringe until I test him, I might have to play "catch the cat" a second time.

You really need to find a way to determine the dose after you have tested. You can get some real surprises for pre shots sometimes. How about testing and then giving him some treats while you fill the syringe? Some people give the shot while the kitty has their head deep in their meal - would that work?

I get the syringe filled and put it in a small tray with its cap on loosely. I put a strip halfway into the meter and carry it, the syringe, and the vial of extra strips (just in case) on the tray to where I test and dose him. It's all there and ready to go - saves precious time if your cat is impatient.
