wow. need some talking down. Did Oren's first BG test at home, just before his morning shot. Foolishly, didn't anticipate how squirmy and impatient he'd be due to hunger! I persevered and over the course of about 15 min was finally able to get a sample; it yielded his highest reading to date: 565!!! This beats the 511 at the vet office last Mon. when they did his curve.

so, then he ate his full can of FF, got his shot and immediately drank a bunch of water and peed...Yesterday, I had seen the first real decrease in his PU/PD, total number of pee's down by 1 or 2 and amounts decreased. He was definitely more peppy and even played a bit chasing a string.
Normally he's very calm and quiet in my lap but because of his anxiousness to eat it was a bit of a tussle. Could I have stressed him even more than the doc?! Anyway, if things calm down, i will try to get a +6 this afternoon. I don't want to stress him too much with every 2 hrs. int the beginning . Definitely not my best effort...

Congratulations on your first successful BG test at home :)
Eventually, Oren will learn that after he sits for his test he gets a test treat or his food.

Good for you!!! My Dweezil's first successful ear test (which came after two weeks of unsuccessful attempts that yielded no blood and an annoyed Dweezil) resulted in blood splatters on me, him and the dining table. Lol

I actually got enough on the first stick! sucked it onto the test strip and then he launched and i did indeed find a blood spot on the carpet! Of more concern, I couldn't find the lancet for a short while either! it had fallen next to the chair we were in! Good thing folks don't make videos of the 'not so smooth' home tests, or no one would ever try it! Best of luck to you and Dweezil, I hope it continues to get easier! Didn't i read on another thread that he is in remission?

Oh! No! I wish he was in remission! Lol. That other thread might have been the question i asked about going away on holidays and having him at the cattery, and i listed various hypothetical situations, one of which was that he was in remission. :)

Oh, sorry!! yes, that's the thread I meant. I too am going away soon, although only for 5 days, not 5 weeks, but I'm a nervous wreck also. Trouble is, I do this every other month too!! I do have a vet tech pet sitter experienced in shots and even testing, but she's only coming 2x day....Yikes.
I hope your long scheduled trip becomes a reality and you have a great time!!

Thank you so much! I am sure that Oren will be ok while you're away! I'd be nervous with two visits per day but that's because Dweezy can be very naughty and get into all sorts of trouble. Lol.

Yes...five weeks away. I am trying to devise ways to keep him safe and to prevent me from living in fear the whole time!
