Griffin's Mom

Member Since 2016
I have purchase a two unit timed feeder to add to my collection of fun diabetic tools.

I am wondering if Griffin should be having access to food overnight.

Feeding schedules I am considering:
Shots are at Breakfast and Dinner

1)
7am breakfast
1pm snack
7pm dinner
1am snack

2)
7am breakfast
11am snack
3pm snack
7pm Dinner
11pm snack

3)
7am Breakfast
11am snack
3pm snack
7pm Dinner
11pm snack
3am snack

Any other schedule suggestions appreciated

If you don't want to do a 12/12 hourly feeding schedule then going forwards split the AM food into 1/3rds, Give 2/3 pre shot then the reminder at +3, same for the PM schedule, this helps to 'steer the drop' as the Caninsulin kicks in.

So no food after +3? He gets very sassy for food around +7 (2pm) we always thought he was just food obsessed wonder now if he is truly hungry.

Mine is on a strict 12/12 schedule and would happily eat all day given the opportunity, some people let the cat graze most of the day, some people have ninja cats who will break into food containers and steal whatever they can find. It's complicated but in diabetic cats the hunger centre in the brain is fooled into telling the cat to eat depending on the blood sugar at the time. Mine is food obsessed when the numbers are high, the genuine hunger kicks in when the numbers are low and I can tell the difference by her behaviour. Whatever you decide to do - keep it consistent, but do give something at the +3 time.

Mine is on a strict 12/12 schedule .

When you say 12/12 - do you mean the get food once every 12 hours?

Say I did 7 am - 10 am - 3 pm (small like 1/2 of his 10am portion) (he literally stalks humans in the afternoon) do I need to do the same at night or could I forgo the 3am snack?

Yes mine gets fed every 12 hours, 1/2 of her daily food intake each meal. So whatever schedule you pick 1/2 of the daily food intake needs to be in the AM cycle and 1/2 in the PM cycle to keep things consistent. Mine stalks me if I am around and in the kitchen for whatever reason but I just ignore it.

I do wet food morning and night, and zero carb dry to graze on all day and night.

I would try your 2 option and see how it goes.
