Someone just suggested to me the option of off brand glucose test strips. While the make he found wasn't available at Amazon, another off-brand is.

Please use this thread to discuss for me and others the pros and cons of using so'called "compatible test strips instead of those made / offered by the same manufacturer as the glucose meter.

I suggest you read the reviews on Amazon for the ones you would like to purchase. Here is the first review I saw for the ones I gave you a link to on your other post:
"I ordered these strips looking for an alternative to the name brand strips. The price of the One Touch strips is astounding. I was a little unsure of this strip at first because it is so cheap, however the results are very very accurate. In fact I would argue MORE accurate than the name brand strips.

I have had them for a week now and every time i check my sugar i, i also test with One Touch to make sure they are accurate. Every time I have tested they have been within 3 mg/dl. In fact yesterday I was at my doctors for a different issue and I asked since I was there if they would take my blood so I could get a definitive result. The Genstrip result was closer to my doctors result than the One Touch was! After seeing the results I came on here to write this review. I know lots of people are struggling right now financially and hopefully this helps some people save money"

That was one example of generic strips for OneTouch. If you search on the site, you can see what options are available.

Thanks.

I'm also seeking out comments from other board members who may have experience using off-brand test strips.

I'm curious what the success rate is, what thoughts people have, how accurate they seem to be, and how comfortable others are using these products.

It seems like this would be a useful topic, not just for me, but for others who may be in similar circumstances.

I also found this document (published 03/04-2017) on the cost of all human meters and strips, blood sample size, features, and battery information. It also provides pictures of how large the blood sample size is. I hope this is helpful :cat:.
