Anyone know of or feeding there cat Open Farm wet food? The values the kind customer service lady sent me seem very good, what do you all think?

I'm confused by the low protein in the as fed column...does it make sense?

Hmm...I looked at that post and I'm getting different numbers from DM vs As fed...

As fed:
Protein: 30%
Fat: 55.8%
Carbs: 14%

Dry matter:
Protien 140 = 44%
Fat 105 = 33%
Carbs 70 = 22%

Did I do something wrong?

Grass Fed Beef:
Protein: 8.5%
Fat: 6.5%
Carbs: 4.0%
Ash: 1.3%
Calcium: 0.2%
Phos: 0.15%
Sodium: 0.1%
Moisture: 79.0%

Total: 99.75%

BEEF:
Calories:
Protein: 29.75 cal
Carbs: 14 cal
Fat: 55.25 cal

Total: 99 cal

AS-FED
Protein: 30%
Fat: 55.8%
Carbs: 14%

DMC
P 140 = 30%
F 255 = 54.8%
C 70 = 15%

Mackerel & Herring
P 162.75 = 40.8%
F 170 = 42.6%
C 66.5 = 16.7%

So, it's looking like these foods are actually a lil high for kitteh's ...unless I'm doing something wrong.

I ran the first three columns and you were spot on so good job.

I also have a calculator for the numbers but I did the post on how to manually calculate it for those who don’t like Xcel SSs and just prefer a calculator.

Oh you shared it? Haha, I wish I saw that before I made mine! lol

So, I mean it's not terribly high carb food, but I think it's too high for our diabetic cats right? It seems like such a good food, with good ingredients. Such a shame.

No I didn’t post it but it’s on the FDMB home page: Food Table Q&A and click on “Excel Spreadsheet”. But you did a great job although I only checked the numbers; I didn’t try to change anything to see if it would calculate the calories from each macronutrient.

Actually, I don’t think the ingredients are all that great. Agar agar does the same thing as carrageenan which we know is bad for cats. Agar agar is also an algae. Cats also don’t need all that other stuff like kelp, cranberries, carrots, red lentils, etc. Cats are obligate carnivores. I feed a raw diet and they get meat with a supplement that has digestive enzymes, omega 3s, taurine, etc in it but no oils, spinach, beans, etc. BTW, I’m not really sure why they are using agar agar and chickpeas both. They do the same thing and the chickpeas are a better option.

But, to answer you question, yes, they are MC foods and might work to steer but a little heavy on the carbs for daily feeding.

Ah okay, I actually agree with everything you say. They really don't need all that stuff. I kinda meant, that it's better "fillers" than other foods (wheat, wheat gluten, corn, etc...)

But with that said, Emmett has been doing fine with the food he's on, so no need to go get this food for an experiment. Just wanted to check it out as the food/company itself (for dogs at least) gets pretty good reviews.
