It was a year ago today I was given the best referal ever. On another message board we were discussing vet costs and I mentioned we had a diabetic cat. Another member sent me a private message recommending this site saying it helped her get her kitties off of insulin.
So on over to this FDMB site I came. I didn't really care so much about the costs. But we were becoming concerned because we didn't know much of what we were doing and we were getting into an area of treatment that made us nervous. I firmly believe we avoided a severe hypo with our Smokey because of this site teaching how to watch and understand. We went down those upper rungs of the dosing scale pretty darn fast! Her last dose of insulin was just 33 days later. My girl got her energy back, her silky coat back. She filled back out to almost the weight she was before. She continues to maintain her steady numbers when we test.
This site not only made us more understanding of feline diabetes, but in taking care of our girls in general. We are much more aware and are able to catch things much quicker and able to treat better with more knowledge. When we took Smokey to the UofMN because her voice was not right (from what we now know was calicivirus from the kitten) the vet commented on how great it was that we were so aware of our cats' physical and mental well-being and what an awesome BG charting we kept!
I also don't know how I could have handled the first loss to our family when cancer took our baby Peanut in September. To have this site where so many understood that pain meant more than words could ever say.
