I've been mulling through a few dose reduction questions in my mind and thought I'd ask for some input.
Question #1: Reducing the dose:
Question #2: Shooting through a reduction: (I've searched through the Sticky's because I know I've seen this somewhere....couldn't find, so thought I'd go ahead and ask.)
If a cat earns a dose reduction during the morning cycle...what are the key determining factors that dictate whether to shoot through the PM with the normal dose and take the reduction in the morning, or whether to take the reduction on that PM dose. (I would think the PMPS number....the cats bouncing history, etc. but wonder if there is a hard fast rule).
Thanks in advance for the education!
Question #1: Reducing the dose:
- If kitty drops below 40 (long term diabetic) or 50 (newly diagnosed diabetic) reduce the dose by 0.25 unit. If kitty has a history of not holding reductions well or if reductions are close together... sneak the dose down by shaving the dose rather than reducing by a full quarter unit. Alternatively, at each newly reduced dose... try to make sure kitty maintains numbers in the normal range for seven days before reducing the dose further.
