Because of the pandemic, I had not seen my Dad in well over a year. When I finally visited him last year, I discovered his cat to be a shell of who she used to be, so I brought her home.

She's on the mend now, with good BG levels, and I'm adding the tiny scoop of the powdered Renal K supplement to her (wet) food 2x/day.

While she generally loves her glycosupport wet food, there are frequently times when she won't eat all of it, so it dries out and I have to pitch it. Because of the RK powder in it, I've started serving smaller portions in the hopes she'll eat all of it, as well as get the full scoop of medicine too. Even then, she'll not finish it all - whether it's the presumably stronger taste of the medicine, or whatever, I'm wondering if we need only battle this for a period of time, or whether I should try the RK gel for a bit.

I've found tips elsewhere here on spiking the food with Parmesan cheese, and/or small amounts of tuna/chicken water, but it's not a big help.

Is there a point in the near future when we might not need to add that medicine to her food?

I don’t have experience with Renal K, but it’s important that the cat eats. Any chance you can put the powder in a tiny gel cap and pill her with it? Syringing the powder missed in with water or tuna juice might work as well. Fortiflora sprinkled in food can sometimes entice a picky cat to eat.

Glycosupport isn’t a great food—all that it’s got going for it is that it’s wet. It’s expensive and sometimes the cat will go off their food. Any sort of pate like Fancy Feast Classics or Friskies would work fine for a diabetic cat. She might like that more and may be willing to eat it with the powder.

Cats need their meds for as long as their blood work shows a deficiency. Sort of like insulin for diabetics.
