I have been feeding Merrick but am becoming very displeased and need to find something new. I am uncertain if Hidey has kidney issues although the vet thinks he's showing beginning signs of it so to be cautious I am watching phos as well until I have more blood work done (hopefully within the next month or so) I figure it cant be a bad thing to watch phos anyways since he is older. Also upon looking at soulistics website it seems a few of them are low carb any opinions on any not listed?

Re: On the hunt again for food, any one try these brands/fla

well you've got me checking out the list....

I have tried the soulistic brand and Shadow wasn't impressed although I will go look today for the autum bounty chicken dinner in pumkin soup pouch to try.

that aromatic chicken dinner is 13.29 % carb. ( a medium carb)

Remember if you are looking for a lower phosphorus food to also pay attention to the carb value. 10% or less is in the low category.

I felt like the quality of the seafood varieties in soulistic wasn't that high. The foods were mostly dark in color.
Seafood that is used in cat food is the stuff that's still on the docks after they sort thru and take out what is fit for human consumption.

So I've gone thru this list and found a few new ones to try.... but I'm picking them by 10% carb or less....

I have been impressed with Holistic select and I was already planning on getting more of it today as well.

Re: On the hunt again for food, any one try these brands/fla

Thank you for the reply.

according to the food chart the 13.29% is fat.

Soulistic Aromatic Chicken Chicken Dinner in Gelee 0.82 79.81 0.11 13.29 1.08 17.67 10-Jul-14

and according to their website its .95% carbs.

DEFINITELY not arguing the fact, please do not think that I am just looking for GOOD quality cat food, that I don't have to make so if soulistic isnt impressive then its not worth the time anyways. I just want to make sure I was looking at the right column on Tanyas list. Thats where I got those foods from.

I found the Holistic website website intriguing. The holistic is it a chunky pate or more smooth if that makes sense lol?

Re: On the hunt again for food, any one try these brands/fla

you are right!
and I'm not even dyslexic.

I just bought and fed the soulistic autumn bounty chicken dinner in pumpkin soup pouch
and she ate it.

now will she eat it twice? :?

it's very much like the tiki cat chicken with egg but juicier.

I think soulistic is good quality.... but fish makes me nervous.
the true judges are whether or not our cats approve and eat .

Re: On the hunt again for food, any one try these brands/fla

I am intrigued about the holistic select. I LOVE that I know what the ingredients are. I actually emailed them after I seen your post about as fed values AND they responded quickly THAT makes me more interested. I love good customer service. Was the description of the food for the soulistic or the holistic? Hidey has a hard time eating shreds. He never would eat pates till this past year when he started having a had time eating shredded. He's missing his upper canines and 3 back teeth. Problem he has as gross as it sounds is that with the shreds theyll end up going the long way and will gag him so he'll give up trying to eat  So after 13 yrs he eats pate now. Years ago he'd starve himself before he'd eat pate style lol

Oh heres the email response from them, I was just curious if the numbers were accurate although I had to email back for pho %

Re: On the hunt again for food, any one try these brands/fla

I can't remember the holistic texture.
I didn't find any today and I went to 5 different stores. (santa fe doesn't have that great a selection)

But as for shred type foods...
I usually take a sharp knife and chop it up finer.... smaller bites...
I also have a mini food processor if I want to make it into pate.
My cat has none of her fangs.... and several others were pulled too. (forl)

avoderm has a chicken only and to get my cat to eat it , I had to process it to a pate and add raw shrimp.

I just looked online for the one brand I could not find anywhere today....
petite cuisine....
and they have a 4 pack of sesame chicken and the chicken pot pie entrée...
both on the second page of this chart.....
I wanted to try it first before committing to a whole case of either.

Re: On the hunt again for food, any one try these brands/fla

Grrrrr that's the thing I hate. None of the stores around here really carry much. I was lucky to find merrick at petco. I have a petco and petsmart about a half hour away so every once in a blue moon I'll go out that way to check out the selection and stop by a few other stores that I browse for other items besides that all I really have is walmart so I order all of my food online but it sucks to buy a whole case and not know. We do have one tiny pet store but I swear their cat section is the size of a small closet and only carry 2 brands can't remember the name but remember their high carb since last time I went there I had my chart lol. Sunday their actually having a sample day so maybe they'll have other brands they don't carry. I'll have to pop in and check but I'm gonna hunt for somewhere I can buy just a few cans of the holistic. Thank you for the tip about chopping, and/or using a food processor. Both would be simple but for some reason I never thought of it lol

Re: On the hunt again for food, any one try these brands/fla

Finding Holistic Select is hit & miss. Some of my Pet Supplies Plus locations carry it. I used to feed it regularly, but it got hard to find and my cats got more fussy. There's a family owned pet store here that only carries holistic food, they carry it but it's more per can.

The Fancy Feast Chicken feast classic and the FF Chicken & Liver Classic are always a hit in my house. Of the 5 of my 6 that eat wet food they eat will not leave a morsel of either. The FF Chopped Grill classic is another hit in our house.
