Older Cat Meowing Going Around In Circles BG Lower

Catee is now 19 years old. He was actually doing well for his age and the fact that he is now completely blind. The past three weeks he has started meowing loudly plus going around in circles. His BG is now low enough that he hasn't needed insulin (prozinc) for 3 weeks.

The meowing started out as his eye sight got worse. When it completely went he would meow but I would talk to him and he would stop. Now he doesn't stop. He will go to his litter box which is in another room then come back meowing. Get up from sleeping start meowing. It is very very loud and nothing I say or do will help him. He will eventually stop.

The circling has gotten worse the last week. While losing is sight he had a trail he went which I assume his scent was on and would avoid running into things. Now he bumps into things and will just continuing going around in circles left or right. I will pick him up and move to another place and he will bump into something and start again... bumping into the same thing.

His BG has went down to at one time 60 to average 80/90. I have stopped giving him insulin for three weeks. It was just too low to give him any. He eats Purina DM dry food.

He had another anal gland rupture about a month or so ago. He healed up well. Other than that okay. He eats and drinks well. He does urinate a lot so I believe he has some kidney problems. The last blood test he had the vet mentioned thyroid problem. I can't give him a pill so that is not being treated.

With all that said.... is it just part of the process of him being older?
I've never had a cat live this long so really don't know.

You all have helped me so much in the past with him. I would greatly appreciate any input.

There are forms of hyperthyroid medication that can be rubbed in kitties ear, called transdermal application. My aunt had a kitty that lived to 23 with transdermal hypert medication. With this new symptom, circling, might be time for another vet visit. Does the vet know why he lost his sight? I grew up with a cat that became mostly blind. He was fine as long as we didn't move the furniture.

Doctor didn't offer the medication in that form. I asked about giving a shot and he said that pills or radiating the thyroid is the only thing. I will have to find out. That has been a couple of years ago.

In regards to his sight... he had a few times he just stopped eating. Vet said his blood pressure was high. They were leaning towards that. I am thinking it was from him not eating and possibly the diabetes. He had been doing good about getting around the house.... yes can't move anything because they get use to it being there.

Hate having to take him to the vet. Since the blindness it upsets him even worse.

Untreated high blood pressure can cause blindness. Maybe it's painfull and that's why he's meowing? Some medications you can get compounded into liquid form if pilling is really hard.

I would definitely get the high BP treated immediately. It may or may not reverse the blindness but it will keep him from having a stroke.

Elderly let’s, like people, can also get symptoms of Sundowners’ even if it’s not sundown....especially because he might not know.

The circling makes me think vestibular disease - like vertigo, but without a head tilt or nystagmus in his eyes it might not be...? is he nauseous or still eating normally ?
I've used the transdermal pen in cats before and they usually don't seem to mind it much
