I started giving Gobbles a xobaline today-- it would be so much easier to get it down him if I buttered it up first.....will butter hurt him if used on the pill once per day?

check the carbs on it. I found "I can't believe its not butter" which has 0 carbs and I give her a little bit each day to help against hairballs.

I found this nutritional information on one tablespoon of butter:

Seems like the butter would be okay?

Hi,

Is it not possible to crush the Zobaline into Gobbles' food? I used to do that with Bertie and he didn't seem to notice the taste of it at all. It just looked really odd (are the pills still bright pink??? ohmygod_smile)

i'll try it today...but have a feeling he'll bust me...lol!

If it were a lot of pills, I'd use unsalted butter.

Pill Pockets are wonderful if the cat likes them. I can break one in half to cover most small pills or capsules and my cats will eat them right up. If a tablet is large, I'll use a pill cutter to get it in pieces, then wrap the pieces.

Thanks BJM....BTW, I think his BG is falling--kinda seems that way. This morning he seemed like his "old self" and jumped up/down counter waiting for his (low card!) can of food. Can you help me out and give my your opinion? Here's his numbers (he got his very first insulin shot, 1 U. Lantus, on 11/24/12) and these numbers represent feeding prior to the BG test -- the amount of hours before feeding are * * -- Of course, its only been 4 days since her's been on insulin....

11/24/12 (pm) - *1* 236
11/25/12 (am) - *4* 218
11/25/12 (pm) - *3.5* 311
11/26/12 (am) - *3* 289
11/26/12 (pm) - *2* 211
11/27/12 (am) - *3* 228

One thing that will really help us to give you feedback is create a spreadsheet

We need to see the pre-shot and pre-feeding glucose value that is not more than about 15 minutes before giving insulin.
From the time you give the insulin, we'd like to see a test around 6 hours (+6) after the shot to see how low he is going.

In list format it would be
date,
AM, glucose value, insulin given, any notes on health.
+# hours since giving insulin
+6, glucose value if you were looking for the nadir, which should be somewhere between 5-7 hours after giving the insulin.
PM, glucose value, insulin given
