When using the diatomaceous earth on the cats, do you use the food grade kind? I read somewhere that was the one to use on the cats themselves. The lower grade one is fine for the yard, etc. Also, how do you make that flea trap? I need some! I am using Advantage II on all cats, they only go out on the lanai, I flea comb them and still am getting fleas. Not horrible, but they are on them! One bit my ankle the other day and they have a bite for such a little thing!I sprinkle it around outside too. Also rub it all over the bodies of the older cats because I don't use advantage on them. I put it on them outside and leave them out for a bit, since it's so messy. It's great in the chicken coop too! I used to eat it myself, but haven't in awhile.
I've been enjoying this thread! Thanks, Sue, for starting it.I use the food grade kind everywhere because of my cats being in the yard . And yes, only human grade on the cats because of them preening themselves. I HATE fleas. Once summer they almost made me become unglued it was such a bad year. I use Natural Defense by Sentry. It's all oils and smell good, strong, but good, peppermint, cloves, lemongrass. I get it online. Maybe you could use it inbetween doses of the Advantage. The natural won't sterilize the females, but it does detract and kills them.
Yes I have read that too, two that I can remember are lavender and Tea Tree Oil.I read somewhere that cats can be extremely sensitive to essential oils and that they should be avoided. I don't have time to find the link at the moment but I'll try to post it here later.
