Ok got acrmegaly test said it was a little high but in conclusives

Got the test done said levels were a little high but can't really tell if she has it or not.Well I don't think she does i up her to 12 2x day insulin n now in the blues I'll take that. Not gonna do a cat scan etc on her she is doing great at least for now
 
What was the IGF-1 test number? I wouldn't do a CT scan either.

Her numbers are looking a lot better at this dose. How is Kendra feeling/doing?
 
The BG regulation is looking really good at dose 12.0. I'd be interested in seeing the test numbers too.
 
I'm just glad her levels are to Finaly down she is doing great right now having the monthly throw up n don't want to eat but I happens n then is fine w meds just frustrating at least I'm not freaking out over her levels
 
I'm sure she is feeling a lot better. And it's easier on her kidneys too. You are doing a great job.
 
It's hard...that you know she probably has Acro. The permanent fixes are so expensive. And the larger doses of insulin get costly over time. With luck, she will remain stable at the 11.0 - 12.0 dosage levels.
 
I don't feel at all she has it vet specialist n me just feel she is high does kitty so we will just deal with that thanks all for the support
 
There was a study in Great Britain in the past 10 years. They tested some diabetic cats. They found some large percentage (I think 20%) had some Acromegaly. They concluded that Acromegaly is a lot more common than many vets/people think.

High dose in a pure pancreatic diabetes is not very common. The issue could be IAA or Acro. In any event, the kitteh can either get expensive Acro treatment or just get higher insulin doses....which is what you are doing anyhow.

I had the same monetary limitation. My vets have concluded that TiTI probably does have acro, and control has been by controlling her insulin. As of May TiTi has done well for 4 years. We're on the beginning of her 5th year, but acro has taken a toll. TiTi has CKD, and is mostly blind. Had I any way to get treatment for her acro, I would have done it, because she'd most likely be in better shape now, with more happy years to live. Too often these days, money equals life.
 
The staff at CSU (where Leo had SRT) told me the mean survival days after SRT is 300 days. I suspect there are multiple causes for this:
- probably late in the game by the time they get treated
- diligent testing and insulin therapy is needed to keep proper levels and avoid hypos

The unfortunate situation is that SRT is just too expensive. It is even a lot for high tech workers like me.
 
CSU told me the mean survival time was two years. The main reason is that a lot of these kitties are older ones already, and subject to many of the conditions our other older cats are. Of the few kittens who had SRT around the same time as us that I kept track of, a couple unfortunately got other unrelated cancers. Kidney disease was also common. :(

TiTi was only 7 1/2 years old at diagnosis. That's probably why she made 4 years, so far.
 
Tumor seems to hit young and old. I don't know if this will encourage you at all, but I've read that 2-3 years is tops for acro cats. However, my TiTi is still alive, and her 4th year acro-anniversary was the middle of May 2018. She was 7 1/2 when diabetes struck, so her tumor was probably in play for some time before that. I think the younger the cat, the better the survival rate. This is just my speculation.
