I know, it's crazy. Third time in under a week. +6 is 55 (I am updating SS as soon as I post this, give me one moment). This is typically her nadir so it shouldn't be going any lower BUT I need to leave for work like, right this second. I could call out, or stall and say I will come in later, but I need opinions on whether/how long I need to stay with her. There is no one else home right now, she'll be alone.

Last Friday she dipped to 54, so we went from 2u down to 1.8. This morning she had a lower PS than normal (213) so I made the decision to only give her 1.6u ... still 55 at nadir! The only thing I can think of is I might have not given her her scheduled mini meal at +5? I thought I did but when I went to grab some food just now I still saw the can that I would have fed her...

Should I stay with her at least an hour? Or call out?

Thread from last Friday where she went this low.

You have to do what you are comfortable with. It is far enough in the cycle, and based on your data, probably her nadir, so you could just leave out food for her and go on to work. But, again, you have to be comfortable with whatever you decide to do.

You're absolutely right. I'm definitely not leaving her right this second, if anything I'll be late today. Just not sure if I wait an hour and she's up a decent amount will she be okay is what I'm wondering.

I would think that if she is rising over the next hour, things should be fine. Since you missed her +5 meal, she probably just needs her food and will be fine.

Thanks for the advice. I will check her after 30 minutes and make sure she's rising. Can't believe I forgot her meal D:
Do you think after this I should go back to the 1.8u (I wasn't planning on decreasing it permanently, just noticed her low AMPS this morning), or should I try 1.6u again and see how she does?

I think I would hold the 1.6 for at least a couple of days. (Remember that I'm one who is a big believer in dosing consistency rather than adjusting for each pre-shot.) I think she is still having pretty extreme ups and downs. She appears to bounce a bit from hitting any greens since she is not used to it. I don't see any tests during the AM cycle yesterday. I assume you were away and unable to test. I would bet that she got into some greens yesterday, too. Maybe some pretty low greens based on that PMPS. I think you are starting to make progress in leveling things out some. It's good to see mostly yellow, all shootable pre-shots. Maybe 1.6 for awhile will calm things down even more and get you some better PM cycle numbers. (By the way, would it be possible for you to get some later PM cycle tests in occasionally? Maybe set an alarm for +4, +5 or +6 sometimes? Getting only +3 doesn't really let you see what is going on with the cycle.)

That's correct, I had to work early and stay late yesterday. I did ask my mom who was home to feed her a few extra times as opposed to just three scheduled mini meals, since I wasn't 100% sure what the 1.8u was doing to her and I wasn't able to stay and test.

I can certainly try on those late PM cycles. I'm usually already worn out by +2 by I've been setting alarms so I can sleep and wake up at +3 so I don't see why I can't do it for some later tests. Thanks for the recommendation on it!

That would be good. Just replace that +3 alarm with one of the other times, maybe vary it on different nights.

So, are you leaving for work now? :)

No, I decided to call out. I told myself if she wasn't over 100 by +7 I'd stay and she was 77. She's probably fine but better safe than sorry and plus at this point it'd only be a 3 hour shift...not worth the 1 hour drive one way.

It's OK! She is bouncing from the low today. This too shall pass. I'd definitely reduce the dose again and 1.6u sounds like a good start. Seems Panic may be on a mission.

As disconcerting and inconvenient as these lows might be, they are a good sign that Panic's pancreas is probably do more of the work it's supposed to do. Next time she throws you a low number right before you are leaving the house, especially if you know you forgot her snack, give her some higher carb food and recheck to make sure her BG has come up then and leave more LC down for her to eat in your absence. Of course it's a lot easier to say that than do it and you have to be comfortable with leaving her. If you know you have work and get a lower pre-shot, you can always do what we refer to as a BCS (Big chicken shot) reducing the dose so she gets some insulin but not enough to push her too low.

A good, scary mission! Yes, I can hardly be mad when that means her pancreas may actually be working more. :)

That's what I thought I was doing today by giving her 1.6u! XD Granted that's not a huge deduction. Is there a general amount you recommend for BCS (haha!) if the need arises? Like half dose? Two-third dose?

Man, what's up with our kitties this week? Rocket hit an all-time low of 90 this morning (AlphaTrak). Then back to his normal for pre-shot, and I"m about to check him out again in a few minutes. Anyway just wanted to say we're here with you! :) :bighug:

When I used a BCS, I would reduce by 10 to 25% and sometimes up to 50% if I was particularly on edge about what my girl might do. Panic is not going seriously low but she is in the range you need to take action for. It's really a matter of looking at what she has done in the past and making a guess and being on the conservative side is never a wrong move for one shot IMHO. You can always post for a recommendation....hopefully someone is around.
