Hello everyone, I hope everyone & every cats are well.

My cat Gumung was OTJ since July 2022.
I noticed he was drinking quite a lot today and I tested his BG and it said 538. I almost had a heart attack. His BG was around 120s and this really shocked me.

If this kind of jump in BG while cat was out of insulin, do you go back with dose/?

Hope to hear from someone soon..

Thank you

Hi Erin sorry to hear about Gomung. Sometimes a cat in remission will have an infection or other health issue which can spike the BGs up but if treated, they can return to normal levels. So it is hard to say whether or not you need to resume insulin immediately. I am no expert but if I were in your position I would do more testing and also possibly schedule a vet visit to look for any cause of dropping out of remission. How are his teeth? Dental issues are a common reason for a kitty to fall out of remission.

Thank you for your kind reply.. yes, I also think it’s his dental issue. Does cats do ok when they are in anesthesia when they have high BG?

Good luck finding a dentist. Meanwhile are you testing to see if the bg remains so high and checking for ketones? If consistently high you would need to start insulin I think. :bighug:

Thank you everyone, He will have plaque cleaned off on Monday as scheduled. And if that doesn’t improve this high level of BGs, I have to search for the certified veterinary dentist to do with more test to see if there is bigger problem than just a gum. Hopefully, cleaning helps. He is back on 1.5 U insulin from today morning. I was out of Ketone strips so I should be getting it soon to test it. :nailbiting:
