Oh no! Forgot the lantus

yikes!!!

We went away for the weekend with orange kitty along for the ride. We do this all the time but somehow this time I forgot to grab his insulin from the fridge! :(

Now we are hours away from home and don't know what to do. Any suggestions on how to get my hands on 6 units of Lantus to get us through the weekend? My current plan is to call the vet in the morning and see if they can call in a prescription near here. We recently bought a pack of 5 pens though so not loving the idea of buying another right now. Any other ideas out there? We are in the finger lakes in ny.

Perhaps you could contact the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca: 607-253-3000. They may be able to help you out, perhaps by selling you a single pen. Be sure to call your own vet so that Orange's Rx can be phoned in, if necessary.

I feel so bad for you. I can't help since I'm in Colorado but thinking of you and hoping something works out for you.
 
Hope everything works out, when I was trying to find a singe pen until I could get insulin shipped, the local walmart was the only place that would sell a single pen. Walgreens, CVS, local pharmacies all would only sell a whole box.
 
Thanks! After calling around this morning, I was able to get a pen from a local vet after having records faxed over from my vet. They were really nice and went out of their way to help. I'm thankful they both were open today to work it out.

That's interesting that you found a Walmart that would sell a single pen - mine won't do that!

I feel so much better now that orange has had his shot. Ended up missing one shot and getting the next a little late. That shouldn't be the end of the world.
 
Nice happy ending to this story. FYI I also found a CVS that would sell a single pen of Levemir I think it is just a crap shoot to find the right pharmacy
BTW Orange has the sweetest face - love the avatar
 
So happy it worked out! Yay for a decent local vet! What a bonus.

I keep trying to talk hubby into a vacation with Gizmo. We usually get a beach or canal house down by the Gulf - I so think we could do it. I think it is cool that you take him (her?) with you.
