I went to meet this new vet, and arrived there well before 2:00 p.m. Daisy was a trooper throughout the longish journey there. She never made a sound; only rubbed on my fingers that were poking through the cage door's bars.
We sat, and we waited in this small waiting area. The clinic was once a house, but was modified into a clinic of sorts. There are 2 vets there, but we only saw the main one. I took Daisy in, took apart the carrier since she didn't want to come out on her own, and while I was standing there with her on the table, he was looking at her chart which was faxed over from the old vet. I explained to him everything that went on with her beginning with January 9th, and what the old vet had told me. He examined her abdomen for any obstructions, etc. He drew only a few drops of blood and tested her for pancreatitis, which was negative. He did an antiemetic injection, an antacid injection, and she also received subq fluids due to the fact that she was very dehydrated. She was also given an oral barium medication, and I was instructed to give her promethazine once every 24 hours, and prednisolone every 12 hours, which is to be rubbed in the inside of the ear in the area where no hair grows, plus also took home a can of Royal Canin Recovery RS in case she didn't eat anything when we got home.
Diagnosis: feline enteritis, aka inflammation of the intestinal tract, especially the smaller one
Now... Why couldn't our regular vet have done this for Daisy instead of prescribing the meds that they did? I'll be going to him from now on.
Get this... He has had diabetic kitties, too. He's extremely familiar with everything about feline diabetes. I had a small discussion about Blackie this afternoon, and told him what she's eating, etc. He's also hugely into big cats (lions and tigers and cheetahs, oh my!), and will be visiting a big cat sanctuary here in Texas this weekend, or this Friday or something. He's shown me pictures of them on his wall.
I'm extremely relieved that our precious little girl, Daisy, will be fine. I just have to make sure that she eats... Whatever, and however much she wants.
I'm impressed. He's very, very thorough. I'm happy that I've found them. I'll be taking my others to him when/if the time comes. No more old vet.
