I had an odd thought and I am not sure if the rest of of you have had this as well. As a cna and care provider (human) I understand that to do the best care possible for ours/mine client, pet fur child we need to take care of our self both physically, emotionally and mentally. Not doing this risks our (above mentioned) we need to take care of your self because if we get ill whom will take care of them. Eye opening though Mmmm?

Yes I have several times but I figured that it would be a good thing to say for all the new people coming in what do you think? As I am the new kid on the block and I have no wish to make waves.

Ha, you can't even begin to imagine how many "odd thoughts" I've had since Goof's diabetes diagnosis. Really, I'd be embarrassed to reveal some of the question/thoughts that roll around in my brain sometimes! I bet my vet does a lot of eye rolling on the other end of the phone...

You're absolutely correct!! We mention quite often on people's posts that they need to remember to take care of themselves too...including occasionally skipping a dose if it means you get a good night's sleep!

Another couple of things we suggest a lot around here are chocolate and liquor.....LOL

You are absolutely right and I was reminded of that a few times when I was feeling bad about needing to skip a shot. There are days when we just need to relax or sleep...or just have our own lives for a few hours without having to worry. And, as you say, there is a limit to how much you can do as a caregiver if you don't take care of yourself too. :)

I think chocolate should be on the list for the hypo kit - essential for those pj parties! ;)

Not an odd thought at all. It's a very pertinent one I think we all have to keep reminding ourselves of all the time. Sometimes we get so carried away with this "sugar dance" that it essentially takes over every waking moment so a little reminder now and then to look after our own needs too is appreciated and necessary. There was quite a lively discussion on this subject back in May. Here's a link in case you missed it and are interested.

I just got through reading the posts and I found it very interesting and many of the events have happened to me as well. It may come off as mean or what ever but I am sooo grateful that Magellan other than diabetes is in good health, ok other than being rather fluffy (fat). I have a fair amount of experience with both human BG testing and SQ injections, much easier than giving SQ water. I really doubt that I could deal with the list of medical problems your fur babies have with out ending up in a rubber room. It was bluntly pointed out to me that if I did not take care of myself I would end up back in the hospital as my own health is not that hot to begin with. You guys have been both my saving grace and a safety net as too few people really understand our love for our fur children/companions. For me it is one step at a time one hour at a time and one day at a time understanding that one day it will be one day at a time.
