He had a bit of EVO as his snack treat. Can/should I give some Greenies now? Opening the Karo...

ETA: "snack treat" meant "test treat"; I was a little distracted when writing this!

I agree, if you have any high-carb wet food or just gravy from wet food, that'd be faster than the Greenies, but Karo is even better. Test in 20 mins.

Breathe! You got this.

Thanks, Bobbie. He had some Greenies with a few drops of Karo. I've offered him canned now and he licked a little (sprinkled w/FortiFlora), but he's reluctant about canned food.

That's a good way to keep offering the wet to him until he converts  or crush some of the dry and sprinkle on the wet.

Will he not eat wet with gravy ( the higher carb foods)

Yes, definitely, a reduction from this!

It hasn't been that long so the treats may not have hit his system, but maybe give him a couple more (with karo). Not too many-- he may need to eat for a while yet, plus you don't want to make him sick.

Glad he's enjoying himself so far!

He's hiding under the bed now--typical from the extra testing. He won't come out for treats now, but gobbles up any I drop behind the bed. I need to figure out how to get him out so I can be monitoring. If I'm not back right away, it's hopefully just because I'm rearranging furniture.:banghead:

OK, big thing is not to freak him out too much-- he's doing well, but you definitely don't want him to do a disappearing act in the middle of this!

48 now. Just had a few more Greenies with Karo; he won't take any more canned. Now he's hiding in the closet, which makes it easier to get to him. The hiding is typical so not alarming, but it does make it harder to tell how he's feeling. His obvious cheerfulness at the beginning of this little adventure was such a help to me.

Good, glad you got to him to test him. They can get into the most unapproachable places sometimes! Let's get him up over 50 and see if he can stay there. Where is he in the cycle? + 3.5? It was early in the cycle to drop like that you might have to see him through nadir to make sure he is safe unless he decides to bounce to the moon which is a good possibility but, stay vigilant to make sure he stays safe.

Ah, good-- over 50, whoo-hoo!

Hopefully those Greenies are really going to start doing their job soon. You can stretch the testing to 30mins-- with any luck, soon he'll be heading up to the sky and you both can relax, but for right now, it's still pretty early in the cycle so you'll want to keep a close eye.

Hear that, Felix? If you behave and stay away from the sharks, you'll get to snooze!

76 at +4.75, over an hour since his last Karo.

Thank you SO MUCH for being here for us. :bighug::bighug: Aside from a little heart-pounding right at the beginning, I stayed pretty calm, but now I'm crying. And laughing.

The karo can take up to two hours to wear off, so he might drop back down after that. Glad he came up - little stinker hiding on you! Congrats on the reduction. With him eating a little more dry food now, this may be the start of needing less insulin. :) I would go back to 6.0 units.

Thanks, Wendy. If he bounces by PMPS, would I shoot 6.5 through the bounce and start 6 tomorrow? If so, how high a bounce warrants this? If he's willing to eat canned tonight, I'm inclined to start the 6 units tonight.

After mixing some canned in his dry for awhile now and having switched him from a higher carb dry to EVO, and not detecting a response to these changes, I was wondering how carb sensitive he was and if I ought to be thinking about high-dose conditions. But one whole meal of canned without kibble, and look what happened! This is going to get tricky since he's so variable in his willingness to eat canned, although maybe that's shifting (paw-pads crossed). I have learned that he likes FortiFlora and he really likes Karo, both things good to know.
