China is having her first ever dental tomorrow, and I just want to make sure I know what to ask, what to ask for, and what to avoid. She's supposed to need at least 1 extraction but may need more.

I won't get a chance to talk to the vet in the morning until I have to leave China there but they said she will call me, so I need to know what I need to ask, demand, get across in a sane, reasoned and intelligent way.

All help appreciated!!

I've never had to deal with a dental w/extraction, but I'm thinking insist on Bupe you can give for a couple of days on an "as needed" basis. Having dealt with the pain Bob was going through in his last days, it seemed the only thing that kept him going was being buped-up. I'll never let a kitty suffer from pain again if all it takes is .1u of bupe to relieve it.

It's also Covenia? the AB to avoid?

Hi Chris,

When I got Ginger's dental done last month, there was this sheet that I signed and also could write some comments, which was kept with the procedure file.

And on that sheet, I wrote "NO CONVENIA, NO METACAM!!!" :-D

Re: O.T. Questions/concerns to bring up with new vet tomorro

Correct. Convenia is the shot that lasts for like 2 weeks and some kitties have a bad reaction to it. But once it's "in" you can't get it back out. If they give you an oral AB, try to get one without "sugar" in it. Sometimes they do that to make it more palatable.

Sending Perfect Dental vines to China, today.

Sending mega good dental vines for China!!
Cleo had one in October, but she had no extractions, and I was pleasantly surprised how well she felt afterwards. Of course, the AB Clindamycin, gave her pudding poo after 48 hours, even with the FortiFlora.
Will be thinking of you today~

Hoping that China wil have no problems with the dental. I've been lucky in that mine have had no ill effects, even with extractions. Tons of dental vines and comfort vines headed your way Chris!

Wendy's links were pretty great!
