hi everyone,
lulu spiked again tonite. i think he may have eaten a little dry kibble, we really need to get the others off the dry! i had decreased his insulin this morning, and the vet thought that was ok, but after his pmps reading of 467 i gave him 1 unit. i don't think it will go dangerously low overnight. he ate dinner well, and he's running around playing like a kitten right now. the playing is a new thing since we started the insulin and the dental stuff seems to be clearing up.

trying to breath and chill out right now and not worry. if i catch him in the litter box i will test for ketones. am i doing the right thing?

Thanks for your support, it means so much. It's so easy to feel lost and unsure of what to do.

He's 150 this morning, woke me up early begging for food... he's chowing! It's still and hour and half from his reg insulin time, but I won't be home today so I don't know what I'm gonna do. I am giving all the cats we food now and they are now letting lulu eat his own so maybe I can leave some food out.

If I were you, I would just concentrate on keeping him safe until the weekend. Then take the time to get lots of tests in so you have a better handle on where the N takes him.

The food change and the teeth issue make your situation a moving target. You can get a +5 at night by setting your alarm. if you know he didn't go super low overnight, then you will feel more comfortable with your am dose.

I would leave out more food than usual during the day when you are not there. Any chance you can put him and some food in an area away from the others? Could you someone check on him during the day?

What did you decide about a shot this am?

I retested him 1hr after his breakfast and also gave him more food. his bg was 252 and I gave him .5u. My wife will be home till 1:30 (thought she left earlier) so she will also snack him and close him up in the bdrm alone with more food (he hates being alone). I may be home in time to test at +6 and give him another snack if need be. These are the days when I wish I didn't live so far from everything... hour home and and hour back out to check on him, but he's so worth it!
Saving my pennies for automatic feeders.
Thank you for the isolation idea... otherwise the kitten would eat all the food!

This sounds like a good plan, Amanda. The .5 may not get him into those nice blues and greens, but I would do the same and err on the side of safety.
