Martha tested at 80 this morning at 8 a.m. Hasn't been that low in ages, although she has been in the 100's for almost a week now. Before I leave the house, I wanted to test her again and at +3 she was 245--!!! Does this make any sense to anybody?

a) the Lantus wore off completely
OR
b) its a bounce from going too low sometime recently - maybe last night or yesterday.

Might I suggest using 0.5 units twice a day? The numbers will be more stable that way.

Just tested her at +10 and she was up to 295. Is this Somagyl (sp?) effect?
She could well have been below the 80 when I tested her this morning.

We call it bouncing when a cat goes low enough to trigger compensatory hormones which then release stored glucose.

Somogyi would be sustained high glucose levels from chronic insulin overdose - we haven't really ever seen that. Just bounces which can take about 3 days to clear.

Tonight, please don't give so much - no matter how high it is. Just give 0.5 so you might be able to safely shoot in the morning. You aren't testing at all after the evening shot and you have no idea how low her glucose is going. Maybe snag a before bed test.

Barely goes up over 200 when you've skipped the night before.

Was too low to shoot safely when you gave 1 unit the night before. And no telling how low he went overnight.

Last night appears to show enough duration.

Really suggest dropping dose to 0.5 units to see if that lets you shoot safely (above 150 at pre-shot test).

It may control him better; he isn't very high at all.
