Since I have been unable to test I dropped Andre at the vets today for BG testing...I am alarmed because his numbers are higher than before insulin (Lantus 1.25 u BID) and before replacing all his food with low carb and changing 100% dry to 20% dry plus 80% canned all low carb. The diet change has been slow, but drastic.

Could it be rebound, does he need more insulin? i think I liked PZI  better as it was more predictable....at least for me it was.

Can you post some BGs together with the dose and how long after the shot and feeding. Also, where the readings were taken since sometimes vets readings re elevated due to stress.

How long have you been on Lantus? A new insulin (especially one with a "shed" like Lantus) needs time to settle. When we first started with Smokey, I think it took a good month before we saw things settle.

At +6 his number 437. So, i guess the insulin is working. But, why is the food reduction not a factor. I'll have to bump it another .5 units to 1.75 BID.

So far I have not smelled ketones in the boxes.

I think you posted last week about how high his numbers are when he's tested at the vet's office. (forgive me if I'm mis-remembering)
Is it possible that its a stress spike from being there? My Ruby will shoot thru the roof when she's at the vet's office. The highest numbers she's ever registered were while she was in getting a curve done.

No, today he was perfectly calm as usual and purred the entire way home. It's when his ear is poked he reacts in a negative way. He hates it. I may try his paw..in fact I will try it.
