I recently called Nutura and got up to date as fed carb number from them as a percent of calories.

I also called "Taste of the Wild" for their numbers, but they do not have percent of cal figures and did not know how to get them.

So, instead they sent me the calculations they use for anyone interested. i am sure it is just standard stuff, but, I thought I would send it anyway along with contact info

Here is what they sent..............................................................................................................................................................

Kcals/g of food:

Analysis % kcal/g of nutrient kcal/g of food

Protein x 3.5 =

Fat x8.5 =

Sol carbs x 3.5 =___________

Total

Soluble carbs are not assayed but can be determined by subtracting the % protein, fat, fiber, moisture and ash from 100.

Yup.

And then you total the calories and divide each of protein, fat, and carbohydrate, using that as the denominator to get the percent calories from each.
 
When's the last time someone has approached Purina (Friskies, Fancy Feast, Pro Plan) or Iams or any of the other mainline makers? It seems easier to get facts from the high-end food manufacturers. We use some Fancy Feast, and I wish the info from the lists were more up-to-date. The newer list I've seen has mostly high-end. We use some Wellness, but the civvie likes it better than the diabetic (of course).

If I were to seek out the info from Purina, would I be engaging in a David vs. Goliath battle? (Sorry for hijacking your thread--but it seemed like a good place to ask!) I am also trying to find out if I am duplicating work someone else has done lately.
 
Not a problem, we all would like to know as companies routinely change formula as EVO just did. Now some of my cats have the runs.

If no one has called the biggies I will get on the horn and find out. I'll wait to see if anyone replies first.
 
Great! The other thing that some have noted is that Fancy Feast classic Turkey and Giblets gives their cats a BG spike. It'd be interesting to see if there's a reason for that!
