Stubbie's numbers on Prozinc are well controlled. He's age 10 - 13, maybe? He also has pancreatitis and herpes. He was bitten, maybe, by something 1.5 months ago that caused a horrible reaction, like a super-acute herpes flare. His nose turned brown and was peeling off, he sneezed terribly, he couldn't smell so he wouldn't eat or drink. The "thing" grew over his nostrils, like a second skin, so every day those had to be opened up. I took him to vet for that, but managed the rest alone; sub-Q fluids, finger-feeding, etc. Labs showed "severe auto-immune response" to something: a mosquito, perhaps. I have them in the house sporadically because I leave the front door open to the enclosed patio.
Edit to now: Since this episode, he feels bad. No energy, sleeps all the time. CBC showed elevated pancreas enzymes, and they seem to stay that way unless he has a pancreatitis flare. The episode knocked the wind out of him, and it was awful to watch. He is just such a sweet little guy. Perfect, and has had a very hard time. He is on high-protein pates and Epigen 90--all high fat, too, which I know can aggravate pancreatitis.
Any thoughts on how to manage this? His quality of life isn't superb right now...(I will be consulting Dr. Pierson...) Any of you managing pancreatitis successfully?
Thank you for your time.
