I increased Ninja’s dose 4 cycles ago to 1.25, his numbers were staying consistently high, now they seem to be dropping more but then end up really high again when it’s time for his next dose. Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong? What can I do to help stabilize him?

This morning I shot 1 unit, not 1.25 because we were not going to be home at all today (husband is doing an Ironman) and I felt safer with the lower dose. Plus, the shot time was 30 mins earlier.

The Lantus is a 12hr insulin, so we all typically see higher numbers from +9 and more as this is when the I;sulky starts to wear off and the kittie will either use what’s in the depot as give stable numbers, or the numbers will go higher. Normal. Is there any reason why you shot earlier? Doing this can sometimes act as an overdose (too much insulin) as the dose from the earlier time is still in the system. At the same time, you’re now 12.5 hrs until the next dose if you don’t adjust for the earlier time. Did you or are you planning on changing the shot time on hr shifts?

Typically like to keep on the same dose for min 6 cycles when following the TR, and 10 or more on the SLGS...this could be the reason for the change in numbers, as not enough time to stabilize on the dose. Try to keep the dose, unless he drops and earns a reduction.

I shot earlier because we were not going to be home (left the house right after I shot and haven’t been back yet) but that’s why I slightly lowered the dose, to account for that. He was on 1 unit for quite a while, wouldn’t have have been enough to build up the depot to allow for more stable numbers? He’s going from 200s into the 400s for pre-shot.
