We are up again this morning. I gave him 1.0. He ate around 3:15 am and is nibbling barely.

I'm out of testing strips so I'm going to get a Relion today to help save some money. I'm also going to get some baby food so I can get him to eat before his shot as I many times have a difficulty with him since I dont know when he ate last.

I'm thinking about putting him back on timed feedings again like when the vet sent him home. I know this will be difficult because I'm reading they need to have food available and I'm gone usually 11 hours during the day. Hopefully we can adjust to it over the weekend and get things under control.

Sue, you mentioned that there are Dog treats that are low carb. I found a calculator that someone posted but I cant get the spreadsheets to work on my cell phone for when I'm at the store. I think I need to create and Iphone App  Does anything come to mind which ones are low carb? They don't like the Pure Bites and I couldnt find the prime test treats or bonito flakes at Petsmart. Hopefully Walmart will have them today.

I am beside myself tonight. Nudderbaby dumped to 56 today. I had switched to the Relion today 7 hours after his first dose and got that number. After I got him back up and was doing more reading on here and realized that instead of 1.0 I had given him 1.2 this morning completely on accident which I'm sure is why he dipped so low.

He wasn't acting badly, I was just wanting to get some readings when I got back from shopping and was shocked but then realized later why he went so low. It is totally my fault and I feel terrible.

I didnt take his PM until 7 because it was a good hour after his AM reading that I was able to give him his dose as he would not eat. He was at 149 on his pm reading so I did not shoot of course. I figured I would let him level out and since I started a new meter, would get a true reading in the morning. Well he started his grunting a little while ago so I decided to do another test and now he's 411 at 2 1/2 hours later.

I am scared to death I am going to kill my Baby. He hasn't eaten much today and I havent seen him drink much but I have been giving him bottled water and when I went to drink a bottle myself tonite I thought maybe he didnt like the water because it is not that great. However, he's always been a huge water drinker pre-DM, enough that you couldnt leave the toilet seat up without him soaking himself trying to get in to drink. Today I have not seen him try to do that either. He has eaten some since the 149 reading at 7pm, some of which was Grilled FF which he has only eaten a tiny bit of and Classic seafood option because I wanted him to eat SOMETHING.

Am I overreacting to the 411 or should I expect him to stay there until morning. I dont want him to keep climbing over night.

I feel like I did when my daughter was little and would spike a high fever and have seizures. nailbite_smile

You do need to get him eating, Tammie. Can you grind up some of the dry he liked and sprinkle it on top of the wet? Does he seem dehydrated? Can you pull up the skin on his back and does it spring back?

Usually we say the number after the low is a bounce and you would want to reduce. You could shoot a token amount to keep him down a little and then start anew in the am. So normally, you would have shot one unit, right? How about giving him .5 now? Will that mess up your schedule tomorrow? Let me see if Robin or Carl will weigh in?

You are doing the best anyone could do, Tammy. You're trying to figure out a complicated disease.

Sorry my internet keeps going out on me.

No he doesnt seem dehydrated. Today is the first I could tell he wasnt drinking from the bowl in the kitchen. My husband pointed something out to me. I moved their dishes to the kitchen from the laundry room where they used to be because I wanted to know how much he was eating and how much Heffer was eating. When I had them separated, she would come up and try to eat his food without touching hers. I did change them back to regular water tonight in the kitchen. I also remember he did go to the downstairs water dish earlier today after he had dropped. I will keep an eye on the level through tomorrow.

Truthfully, she's not eating any better than he is. They both have been truly stubborn with the food change.
I gave the Purina DM to my mom today because I didnt want to revert them back to the dried. I've even offered bacon (which he took one bite of today), chicken and beef to both of them.

If I give the .5 will that throw my testing times off? I need to stay on that schedule because I'm gone between 7 am and 530/6 pm during the week.

Yes, you would have to spend the weekend getting back to your schedule if you shoot late. If you don't shoot, remember not to overreact to the high number in the am. It'll be 24 hours since the last shot and include a bounce. I would go back to your one unit for at least a cycle until things settle.

If there is something they like - a treat or bacon or tuna - try putting it in and on top of the wet.

Hi Tammie,

You are doing a great job getting up to speed with FD and as we all know the learning curve is very steep in the beginning.

There isn't alot of data to go off of. But that 411 is probably from a panicky liver from his low today. Please don't let if freak you out, it will go away by itself, you just need to wait it out.

I'm on board with a .5u token dose for tonight. But he does need to eat so I would work on that too. Meat baby food always worked for me.

I'm sorry I'm not up to speed on you and Nudderbaby yet.

Robin

I would rather he be high than low but I dont want to cause any damage either from him being high for another 8 hours. I can pull the food for the night so he doesnt eat any more. I tried the baby food today
and it was a no go also. He did just eat a couple bites.

His normal dose would be 1u bid. I will give him the .50.

What would my next step be for testing in the AM?

We want him to eat. I don't think you need to pull the food. I would leave it out and hope they suddenly decide ir's wonderful.

Your choice tonight to shoot or not.

Ok I gave him the .5.

I plan to keep my schedule starting tomorrow morning at 630. What I'm not sure of is how to plan the dosing after testing since the PZ is longer acting than 8 hours.

He does tend to eat better after his dose as well, usually within the hour.

Something else he's been doing is hacking like he's got a hairball. This is not something new for him tho.
He's always done that on occasion, sometimes resulting in regurgitating his food (pre DM diagnosis).
He has not vomited since his diagnosis. I was trying to find if there was an issue with the hacking in DM cats.

It is scary to shoot new diabetics early.

Let's see where he is in the am and what your options are.

It was a smaller dose but we don't want any overlap.

Ok that sounds like a plan. If you dont think he needs to be tested until the 12th hour I will wait until then. I hate to poke him any more than I need to but I can do 630 if I need to.

From what I'm finding online, I fear that he may have Asthma now

When he's at rest and breathing it sounds like constant grunting from across the room but I just put my phone up to him and taped his breathing and it sounds more like wheezing up close. When I stimulate him or say something to him tho he seems to snap out of it for a few.

In the beginning I would get any test I was able to get in, to fill in the puzzle pieces.

Shooting early is always dicy especially with a new diabetic.

Let's see where he is in the morining.
